HI, Turn off the gas and take the bowl off the carburetor.Look for water bubbles in the gas that spills away. Water will float like little balls on gas. If so drain gas tank put in new gas with some HEET added. While you have the bowl off spray up and around the bottom of the now exposed carburetor. Pay attention to spray up the small copper tube in the center of the carb. Clean out bowl and put it back on. Turn on your gas. Look for leaks around the replaced bowl. Good luck.

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

To lock the choke on:- 1. depress dead mans trigget on top of back handle 2. squeeze throttle trigger fully in. 3. slide on switch fully down to 'full choke' position. 'it should stay there'. 4. Pull saw over until it fires once. 5. click 'on' switch up one position to 'half choke' 6. pull saw over again, saw should start running and be revving high. 7. 'blip' throttle, saw should stop revving and run on tick over.

You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.
