The refrigerator won't work

My refrigerator was building up ice in the freezer and our repairman suggested that before he comes out, we turn off the freezer and open the door and defrost it for 24 hours. Then we were to turn it back on and see if it builds up ice again. If it did, he would change the defroster computer and we are ready to go. Well, we did all that, and now the refrigerator won't turn back on. It is silent.

We bought this Amana 7 years ago because we had heard nothing but good things about the brand, that it was the Cadillac of appliances. We have rentals and have 17 year old Gibsons in them, and they are still working fine. If Amanas die after only 7 years, we will NOT be getting an Amana ever again.

Is our compressor shot, now? What is wrong with this thing? KS Fullam

Refrigerator/freezer stopped cooling/freezing yesterday. Lights are on inside and 8 hear the fan running in the freezer but no cold air. Tried powering off and also unplugging to see if it would reset...

possible failure of defrost mechanism causing ice to build up behind back of freezer preventing air flow into freezer and fridge. Try turning it off for enough time for ice to melt if cause.
if this is issue the repair man will need the ice half melted to be able to test the thermistor that senses the ice buildup.

My sub-zero 642 will not get colder in the freezer than about 9 degrees and the fridge won't get colder than about 45 degrees. I turned off the breaker and vacuumed the coils, but still no change. ...

The Sub Zero 642 uses independent refrigeration meaning the freezer and refrigerator each has their own system. Best to have an "Authorized Factory Service Company" check it out.

Frig warm, Freezer Cold

I have experienced this with other refrigerator freezers. The most likely cause is that the warming element in your automatic defrost system is no longer working. Ice is building up on the cooling coils and this prevents the refrigerator from getting cold. I have always called an appliance repairman to fix (~$150). If you're handy you can try yourself, but you still have to buy the part at retail. Good Luck

Ice build-up on the inside top of of freezer door

This is a problem that the factory has released a bulletin on.They have released new hinges, and insulation for inside the door. So far I've only seen the bulletin for Kenmore upright freezers made by Frigidaire. Since it is a Kenmore the bulletin is a Sears Service Flash but the units are identical. For sears its SF46-517. They may extend the service to Frigidaire units but you'll have to contact Frigidaire about that.

Whirlpool refrigerator making noise

YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE DEFROST CIRCUIT. NORMALLY BOTH THE DEFROST COMPONENTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOT OFTEN DOES THE DEFROST TIMER GIVE TROUBLE SO IF BOTH COMPONENTS ARE REPLACED AND ELEMENT IS GOOD BUT ICE STILL BUILDS UP THEN TIMER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL.

My refrigerator is warm and ice build up is happening in the fridge

There is a timer that controls the refrigerator defrost cycles. This is located behind the kick panel at the bottom of the refrigerator. Remove the panel and look for a dial-like device toward the front. Try to manually turn the timer dial and listen for an audible click. No click, no defrost. Call a NEW repairman and have him check the defrost timer. Hope this helps.
