At times the unit fails to recognise the music CD in the tray, or recognises its presence and shows tracks & time play on screen but doesn't initiate playing. The fault is erratic. Pushing 'play' on the remote doesn't initiate either. Is this a faulty head or 'dry joints' somwhere? Stephen New Zealand
Does
the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing
noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the
disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path
inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by
an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.
Totally
silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from
the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a
better word. This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by
foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a
marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also
be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.
You
could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as
far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover
off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a
very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings
to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust
accumulating, but its still worth the try.
If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.
If still ur problem is not solved then i am sad to say you have to get it repaired and thats the only solution..
Well..that looks to be a clear indication that you have a lens cleaning challenge. Believe it or not, it 's not unlike the old head cleaning for audio and video players. Now, here's the rub, the cleaning kits that are recommended are quite dear. Let me see which ones are available for this unit.

This unit needs a service visit. It may be a common problem with that model but to me it sound like a power supply issue as when you play a disc more power is used to rotate motors and move the sled. This is indicating to you that it is in a weakened condition and will soon fail more significantly. The problem may be as little as a solder joint or a defective Filter capacitor which is common in some models of equipment.
HI.This will occur when the optical assembly becomes unstable. this ((Whole One Piece)), assembly incorporates the spin/load motor, optics housing /arm, tracking device and tracking rail. This is connected to the loading dock assembly. This 'NO Disc' or CD NOT PLAYABLE, code is the result of a failed or burned out lens, or misaligned loading mechanism. It is possible that you have a dirty lens cap. you can try using a cleaning disk in this case to confirm actual lens failure. if the cleaning doesn't restore normal reading capabilities, this will confirm my diagnosis.
You will need to have the optical assembly replaced in this case. once replaced, your unit will be able to read and track once more
Run a "Laser Lens Cleaner" thru the unit a couple times. Use one that takes fluid, you can find them at just about any retail store for 15-20. If that doesn't solve it, it needs to be repaired. At that point weigh the cost over replacement. A new transport usually will cost 100-150 on average for parts and labor. Hope this helps
Silmilar problem on a MX-D501T At times the unit fails to recognise the music CD in the tray, or

try and see if you can pull a directory using explorer,, sometimes if you record to the full 80 minutes capacity, the disc will return an error,,,even if you recorded it on that drive...also i know this may sound strange but on the drive tray itself take the mount where the laser is mounted and extend it out to the furthest travel point ,,,gently,,,do not force...load the disc, and see if it is now recognized,,,sometimes it is a timing issue, and this way the tray/laser recalibrates itself....
Model is JVC MX-D501T -if it makes a difference!
