My sharp aquous tv has white lines running vertically like a pin-striped suit.

Likely a bad board or a connection dealing with a loose cable inside.

I would research this by using GOOGLE: MODEL NUMBER AND "problems" to see if common issue in this model.

You can also call Sharp customer service to see if in their database this has happened before in this model.

NOt very clear.....

Multiple stripes all over the screen? Vertical or horizontal?

If it's only like an inch vertical lines put a mark on the cabinet where exaclty the line is, turn off the TV then open the back, you'll see lots of ribbon wires (gold color) from the plasma panel it self going to buffer boards, using the mark find the closest ribbon wire where the line is showing then remove and clean the contacts, make sure to reseat it properly when putting it back otherwise you'll just add more lines or black bar on the screen if pins are not seating properly.
But do not be afraid if the lines get worst just turn the power off right away and reaset the ribbon wire till you get it correctly.

CAUTION;
DO NOT try to do this while the TV is on oherwise you'll burn COF (Chip on film) on the panel and you'll end up replacing the whole PDP.

You must contact a svc co. This is a upper or lower buffer board problem and possibly a control board. Nothing you have done wrong, it just happened.

This Problem is usually caused by Leaky Capacitors in Vertical deflection circuit.
If you are handy with electronics,
Get a can of FREEZE Aerosol.
Open the Back Cover.
Put a mirror in front of TV.
Locate the Vertical Circuit.
Turn the TV on.
Spray FREEZE on top of individual Capacitor to see if it corrects the problem.
If it does, Replace that Capacitor.

I have found that vertical lines that suddenly appear from projectors are due to poorly connected cables. Sut off your projector and wait for the fan to go off. Then unplug the connectors from the computer to the projector and secure them again, making sure to go all the way. Hope this helps.

This could be a costly exercice as this is a common Projector Mainboard failure.

You can either replace the board or have it repaired.

It is a simple trouble, tv has got dry solder joints in the vertical deflection circuit. Resolder vertical output ic pins and related components, this will be okay.
