Image is almost in red color - Sony VPL-ES4 Projector

It could be a broken connection in the computer lead for the red signal, or a fault on the projector that the red panel doesn't work any more.

To diagnose, bring up the projector's on screen display. If there's white in the menus then the problem is the cable. Replace it with a new one. If the menus are affected too then it's a projector problem. This requires the attention of a service engionner.

Changing the frequency will not have an effect on the color of the monitor image. If there is a "default" setting or "Reset" button, i would do that. this returns the monitor to the factory default settings which are "usually" pretty good. Adjusting the red driver works as well but the other color divers all work together so it is not a perfect solution, mostly they all need to be moved to get what you need. When you reduce the red you are effectively increasing the other two colors. Based on what image you are seeing it will change but should remainthe same on the same image viewed in the same way, by that i mean you need to view the image in the same software each time for a valid comparison. images can and will change color if they are viewed with different software. You have to open the LP750 and check the alignment of your color lenses. You might be needed to adjust, also check your lamp too.

you will need to replace the two STK392-560 ICs and also check the 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistors and the six 3.5 amp pico fuses.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.



You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.


Solution


You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

First, plug a external monitor and toggle the screen with ALT+F4 to see if the image is correct there. This will discard software or configuration problems.
If the image in the external monitor is OK you problably have a hardware problem in the LCD panel or its cabling.

You might have "color filter" settings. Turn the digital filters off. Here is what manual at p72 says. "You can take pictures using digital filters. The filters consist of color filters such as red, blue and green, a soft filter that produces a fuzzy effect. Color filters Eight colors, black-and-white, sepia, red, pink, violet, blue, green and yellow, are provided for the color filters. When you select a color filter in the Digital Filter mode, the display on the LCD monitor is filtered with the selected color, and the pictures are taken in that color."
