This is a known issue with this player and should be returned. There are lots of docs to support this just google your model # and print out and take to retailer.

My Red Sansa Clip 4GB will not show on any computer i plug it into, It only charges and i have tried the auto detect, mtp, and msc settings. Any Suggestions?

See the section about the hot fix first----- If you are using Windows XP: you need the following. Windows XP SP2 or higher Windows Media Player 10 or higher
Download and install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.
If you are using Windows Vista: If the player is seen in My Computer when using MTP mode, but not showing in Windows Media Player. Download the hotfix from-->>> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211. Run the hotfix.
Refresh the players driver Connect the Sansa player to the PC The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full. If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub. - If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.
If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem. Check under Device Manager 1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage. 2. Click Device Manager on the left pane.
NOTE: Sansa MP3 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are Sansa Connect and Sansa Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for Sansa Players when used with Windows OS. The Sansa player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as: 1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC) 2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)
If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers. Refresh the drivers 1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall. 2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.
NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.
Connect using MSC mode Connecting in MSC mode will help determine if there is a problem with MTP mode or with the Auto Detect mode feature of the player. You can use Forced MSC mode or switch the player settings to MSC.
Instructions to connect in Forced MSC mode are listed here: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61
Instructions to switch player to MSC mode are listed here: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/207
If the player is detected in MSC mode but not when set to MTP mode, try to update or reinstall the Sansa firmware
NOTE: Sansa Express and Sansa Connect do not have MSC mode. For Sansa Connect you can try reinstalling the firmware using the Connect Recovery Mode.
Additional troubleshooting notes: If you have replaced the Sansa Player and you still have problems getting it to recognize in the computer, then you may need to try some additional troubleshooting. - Try connecting on another computer. - Try using a different USB cable - Try connecting to the back USB ports which may supply better power. - If only MTP mode is not working, try reinstalling Windows Media Player For Windows XP try also download and install the MTP Porting Kit

Hi, my computer won't recognize the Sansa Clip even though I have Windows Media Player 11. I am trying to switch to MSC Setting, as a user here described, but don't know how to do it. Can you tell me...

I also had the Sansa Clip, to swicth to MSC setting, in sansa clip player, go to seting > USB mode > There's 3 option:
1. Auto detect
2. MSC
3. MTP

Select MSC, it would be normally detected in any computer, if not, try to format your player :)

The PC will no longer recognize it. I've tried downloading the driver from the sansa website and manually attempting to fix it will no vail

Hello,

Support for the Sansa Clip support information is on next site:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4303/kw/clip/r_id/101834

Correct link for updating the Clip's firmware:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/300/related/1

When MANUALLY installing firmware:
Check the version of your player to have the matching firmware download for the player, as described in the updating firmware link.

Going to the Sandisk forum site for the Clip firmware download:
http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clip&thread.id=15109
Note: read the instructions how to perform the firmware update.
1. Choose the correct version for the player.
2. Connection mode in Windows should be automatic, when not recognized in Windows or with MAC and Linux use MSC mode ***** .
3. Extract the zip file on the computer first.
4. Next put the unzipped file on the player in the root directory.
5. Disconnect the player.
6. Restart the player: the firmware update should restart now.

*****Note:
Switching to MSC mode for Sansa Clip:

Method 1: through the menu
1. From the Main Menu, select Settings > USB Mode.
2. Select Auto Detect, MTP or MSC.
Method 2: forcing, using the buttons / switches
1. Turn device OFF.
2. Slide the Hold switch down to Lock (orange color showing).
3. Press and hold the center button while connecting the device to the PC.

New sansa clip can't get recognized by my computer. Therefore I can't download ti it and use it.

On your Sansa Go to "Settings" then "System Settings" then "USB Mode," change it to MSC, now try connecting it. If that doesn't work try the other modes just in case.
Hope this helps!

I downloaded a Sansa video converter and it keeps saying that my Sansa is not connected after i connect it. Can i have some assistance please?

do u have windows or mac system? if mac,
Although MAC OS is NOT a supported operating system, the Sansa player can still be recognized if the Sansa player is only plugged in MSC mode.

MAC computers do NOT support MTP
A Sansa player in MTP mode when plugged into a MAC computer will NOT be detected or recognized.

MAC computers supports Sansa players in MSC mode
Sansa players can only be recognized by a MAC if the USB mode on the Sansa player is set to Auto Detect or MSC.
See answer ID 207 for instructions on how to put your Sansa player in MSC mode.

See answer ID 1141 for instructions on transferring music to your Sansa player using iTunes on a MAC computer.

My computer does not recognize sanso clip and does not show that it is connected. What to do?

My sister has a Sansa Clip, and sometimes when I try to connect it, my PC doesn't recognize it.

You should try to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11. If that doesn't work, then, try MSC "force" mode. To do this, turn off the Sansa, put it in the hold position and hold down the center button, then plug it in. This will force it into MSC mode. See if that works.

What I did was go to the settings portion > USB mode > MSC. Try that, and then reconnect the Sansa and see if it works. Just go to Start > Computer and see if your Clip is reconginized.

Sansa clip problems with driver

Comment by vickisanchez, posted on Mar 19, 2008 IT FINALLY WORKS !!!!

Sandisk Tech support had me do the following:

- Turn it OFF
- Put it in the HOLD position
- HOLD the center button IN while plugging into USB port, continue to hold for 5 to 7 sec even after plugged in.
At this point MY COMPUTER recognized it. And it worked.

He also had me to:

- go to WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
- In the upper right hand search bar, type in MTP PORTING KIT
I did this and downloaded the first one. Now my Sansa Clip work perfect. I wish I would have talked to him last week before I returned the last one, for the same reasons.

If this does not help call the 1-800 # , opt #4, and ask for GUY (yes that is really his name) out of 5 or so calls to Tech Support he is the only one who knew what he was doing, and how to actually HELP.
GOOD LUCK
