If you have the Windows XP recovery disk you should boot into the disk and do a repair install of the Windows OS. You can also press 'F8' before or right after the Windows XP splash screen comes up and tell it to either boot into Safe Mode or "Boot with last configuration that worked". If you boot into safe mode, go to control panel and programs and uninstall the sp2 installation. Please comment back if you need further assistance. I will be providing a How-To on how to recover a system using system CDs today.

Good Luck,

Windows os

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.

Emachine sp2 prob

BIOS is unlikely to fail from a software fix such as SP2 but you may have too little ram or too slow of a processor to handle changes.
You may have to do a complete reinstallation of XP to set things right and then try the SP2 upgrade again.
Windows is unfortunately sometimes infuriatingly cranky and may require repeated installation before settling down.

Also, eMachines may have tweaked their version of XP in a way not compatible with SP2.
Check their website or MS Knowledge Base for clues.

XP-SP2 hangs on boot after installation

I think maybe better uninstalling driver, but leave card in and boot system and let windows find the card(hardware) first instead of wot sounds like windows looking for driver and freezing in the boot up process as it will look for a connection to internet for an update or driver. Normally any usb periferals should be connected after driver installation, but any pci or agp cards inserted first, then driver.
