Epson CX11NF-Vertical line on output of adf... Vertical line appears only on output of adf scanned docs on Epson CX11NF printer.

  • Anonymous Feb 08, 2010

The glass is clean with no dust. I inspected the place where the line would be if it was caused by dust or a mark on the glass and it is crystal clear.

There may be dust or dirt on the small glass strip. Lift the scanner unit so you can see the scanner glass. To the left you will see a small glass strip. That is the area that you will need to clean. Make sure it is spotless as any stuck on dirt will cause the problem you are having.

You called it - there was a small smug on that strip of glass. Once I cleaned it, the streak was gone. Thanks.

Scanner leaving black streaks

There are two possible fixes.

Download the latest firmware update by CLICKING HERE

The following is provided by courtesy of Lexmark:
Problem Vertical lines; Auto document feeder scan anomaly; ADF scanning problem; Scan issue; Scanner issue; Visible line; Streaks show on page; solid line down the page; Top to bottom line; Smudge runs down the page; Opaque line; Broken line; Bar all the way down the page Solution Overview

This article provides the self-diagnostic steps necessary to evaluate top-to-bottom streaks that appear when copying or scanning.

Important! This is seldom a scanner hardware failure.

The main reason for this anomaly is debris or marks on the scanner glass that is used for Auto document feeder (ADF) page scans.

Printed or Scanned Page Illustration

copyvertstreaks.jpg

Who should consider this article?

Any user of an MFP or All-In-One printer experiencing the following symptoms:

  • -Vertical lines only when using the Autodocument Feeder (ADF).
  • -Observed with any type of scan job (e-mail, ftp, solutions, fax).
  • -However, normal expected output when the page is scanned from the scanner flatbed.

ADF scan behavior

Think of it this way:

  • -The page is pulled from the ADF.
  • -The moving page slides across an ADF-designated portion of glass.
  • -The image sensor, which is located under the glass, reads and interprets the moving page's contents.
  • -Contamination on this ADF glass is seen by the image sensor for the entire length of the page.
  • -The image processor interprets the image sensor's repeated capture of this contamination as a vertical solid line.
  • -Any ADF scan function now exhibits a vertical line.

Suggested Diagnosis and Fix

Step Action 1 Locate the portion of the glass designated for ADF scans.
HINT: The glass location differs by model. This area is often separate from the scanner flatbed. Please reference User's Guide for more information if you are having a difficult time locating this designated area.
2 Perform a visual inspection for any of the following recurring culprits:

  • -Clear adhesive tape
  • -Glue
  • -Ink pen
  • -Paper
  • -Marker
  • -White out
  • -Staples
  • -Environmental dust or dirt
HINT: Ink marks can be especially hard to see and almost translucent at first sight. However, the image sensor (CCD) registers them as a mark. 3 Use a clean, soft, moistened cloth to thoroughly clean and remove any marks or debris. 4 Inspect the underbelly or underside of the ADF for any marks or debris. 5 Perform another scan to see if cleaning the glass alleviated the issue. 6 Repeat the procedure if a vertical line still appears.
Remember! Printing and scanning from the scanner flatbed work fine.
7 This time, place an intentional mark on a blank sheet of paper and take note of its location. Now place that sheet of paper in the ADF and make a copy.
8 Evaluate the distance of the vertical line to the your mark. 9 Inspect that area of the glass for further debris or marks and clean as necessary.

ADF Jam... Service req c2011

Hello,

Can be a tough one.

1st - Open the ADF & make sure that the 2 little Sensor tabs move freely.

2nd - Lift the ADF & check that the White Plastic Paper Guide is "down in the slot" & not resting on edge of the white flat bed scan pad or overlapping the scan pad.

For some C Error Codes

Check for electrical interference from external devices.
Disconnect the Printer from all devices, and run a test print..

Here are the "c2011 error" fixes per the manufacturer:

Replace the Automatic Document Feeder.
Replace the Scanner.
Replace the Main Board.
-------------------------------------------------
You might try unplugging the ADF & see if you can operate without it.

If you unplug the scanner, the printer might not function.

Auto doc feed not working on Epson Aculaser cx11nf printer

Hello,

You stated that the printer doesn't recognize the ADF.

Can you scan with the flat bed scanner ?

As for the ADF, first thing to check is the the External Plug from the ADF to the Scanner.
You have already done this.

Only one other thing.

The external ADF cable feeds from a small circuit board inside the ADF to the Scanner then from inside the Scanner to a socket inside the printer on the Main Logic pcb (ESS) which is located down on the left side behind the small door.

If this cable is partially or completely unplugged from the ESS Main Logic pcb then the printer wouldn't recognize the ADF.

However, this is unlikely to be the problem, UNLESS the printer has been recently serviced and the covers removed. Then this cable could have been moved or partially unplugged.

This internal cable (FFC) is not easy to access. The small, left side door is held by a Phillips screw if you remove the door you can see the Flexible Flat Cables (FFC) up at the top (3 different cables & each is different size). Seeing them and removing/reinserting them are 2 different things.

Also behind the Smaall Door is the optional Ethernet card.

These cables are very fragile, they insert into a special socket with a "press down" sleeve to hold them in place. These cables can be damaged very easily if not handled with some care.

moz-screenshot.jpgmoz-screenshot-1.jpgmoz-screenshot-2.jpgTo gain easier access to the cables, the left side of the printer must be removed and this isn't as easy as one might think.

Beyond the above, the official fix is to replace the ADF and/or the (ESS) Main Logic Board.

You might could buy a new CX11NF for what that costs !

If the CX11NF operates ok in all other respects, especially the flat bed scanner, I would just use it as it is.

Good Luck !

Turn off printer and unplug it from power supply.
Check ADF if it appears to be damaged ( open the top portion so that you can check the mechanisms ) unplug the ADF cable from back of scanner and replug it, replug power cable, turn it on and try scanning using adf again.
