I have a JVC Video Recorder Model HRJ777MS and when I try to play a DVD through the video chanel L1 - L1 keeps on flickering - I have looked through the manual but I can't seem to fix it up.
Has the DVD disc got Macrovision (marked sometimes as CP) on it. If it has you will never solve it, as the signal is flickering due to the Macrovision. Which is a copy protection system designed to stop people making copies of films etc.

To record to the DVD, connect the A/V cables from the JVC GR-D347U to the A/V In on the DVD recorder. Since the DVD already plays to the TV, you just have to keep the TV set to that input. Put a blank DVD in the recorder. Set the DVD recorder to record on from the appropriate Line In (input) with the DVD as the target recording media. To make sure that all of the devices are on and receiving the output from the camera and DVD recorder, start playback on the GR-D347U and check that it displays on the TV. Forward the tape in the camera to the point where you want to record to the DVD. Stop playback. Press REC for the DVD recorder and restart your playback. Press stop for both the DVD recorder and then the camera when the desired video segment has been played back.
This model does not have a tuner so you will not be able to record off of tv unless you run your cable box or dish satellite's audio and video outputs through the dvd recorder's front or back inputs(L1 or L2) and record from those sources. Even then the cable box or satellite box would have to be tuned to the channel that you want to record. If you choose to do this you must go to your on screen menu and under setup/general settings/video/video input you will need to select the video input source(L1,rear or L2, front).
If you can play the vision on your tv via an av connection you should be able to record it onto the recorder. the recorder can record anything thats being played on the tv even if the other device is connected to the tv via another av connection. try this & see if it works.
Video & Left,Right audio go out of Comcast cable box to L1 input on DVD recorder,Video & Left,Right audio go out of DVD recorder to a line input of your TV. Record L1 input on DVD recorder.
try to clean your machine by playing a lens cleaner disc coz the lens might be dirt enough not to pick on data from the discs you play. if it does not work then isuggest you change the lens coz it might be weak
