The system does not recognise that a disc has been inserted. Message says insert disc

I inserted a bonafide DVD and the system displays a message "Insert Disc". I I open and reclosed the system and the same message was re displayed. Can you help?

message for biggT. new to Fixya clicked accept when meant reply. The system is a Sony DAV S400. The message "insert disc" appears after disc inserted not when system is switched on. Do you still think limit trays are sticking?

Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.

Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.

Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc. Also, on PCs, verify that the temporary file storage area on the hard drive used by the burning software has enough free, defragmented space. Allocate at least 5GB for a DVD (9GB for a double-layer [DL] disc) and about 1GB for CD burning.

Do other discs work in your CD drive? If your CD drive has failed, that could be your problem

Copy-protected discs ship essentially damaged and are not compliant with CD/DVD standards, so can fail to read in strictly standards-compliant DVD drives.

Please check other disc are working like cd on your DVD if problem persist try to clen firt with god quality lens cleaner otherwise replace/repair it if its under warranty

Nilofar,it sounds like your tray limit switches arent working properly/sticking.Do you get this message before you open the tray?Give me the make and model number.

  • Anonymous Feb 19, 2008

Sorry so late for the post.If your not seeing the 'insert disc' message until you open the tray i agree with the other techs posts about the lens not picking up the media.Cheapest way is to spray some compressed air into the unit where the tray opens. If this doesnt work you could try a disc cleaner, where a cd actually cleans the lens.

ERROR MESSAGE.....

had the same LD FVU (Load FVU or firmware disc) message and fixed it this way: download firmware from http://www.pasctraining.panasonic.com/specialapplications/productfirmwaredownloads/DVD.ASP and make firmware disc and insert. After it loads and updates, you need to activate your remote again. When the message SET 1 appears, on the remote press ENTER and 1 together for 10 seconds. Done.

NEC DVD-RW 16x DL

If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
