is it on playstation 2? if it is, look at the back of the disc. You might have some scratches on the back. If there is, tough luck, because i haven't found any good solutions to disk scratches. This also works with other console disks. Oh, and one more thing.if there aren't any scratches check the disc area of the console.it may be chipped, scratched, or broken.
Even if the game isn't scratched, you should try holding it under a light to see if there are any fingerprints or smudges on the disc. You can try cleaning the disc with a lint-free cloth if you've got one, though I've never had trouble with a cotton t-shirt. Wipe from the center of the disc straight towards the outer edge. Do this for the entire disc and try it again.
If that doesn't work, please update this issue with the error message you're seeing if any. Does the disc show up in the PS2 browser? Do you get a disc read error? Does the screen just go black when you try to play the game?
The best thing I could offer as advice is to cover the bottom of the disc with toothpaste, the toothpaste acts as a resurfacing agent and helps get rid of scratches, obviously clean the toothpaste off throughly before inserting the disc into the Playstation 2 disc tray.
The 'Disc Read Error' error message, 'Please Insert a Playstation 2 Formatted Disc' error message, or the 'No Data' error message is an indicator by your system that the console is having difficulty reading the game disc. This could be for many reasons; usually this is because the game disc is damaged or unreadable. However, in some situations, this can be a sign of a more serious issue with your Sony PlayStation 2. Try all of the steps listed below to troubleshoot the error:
Check the game disc.
1. If there are any noticeable scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try to clean them off by using a non-abrasive cotton cloth. Note: Do not rub hard and do not rub in a circular motion as this could further damage the game disc. 2. If there aren’t any noticeable scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try using that game disc in another PlayStation 2.
* If the game disc works in another system, this is an indicator that your PlayStation 2 may be damaged. For information on getting your system repaired or replaced, you will want to contact Sony directly for assistance at 1-800-345-SONY. * If the game disc does not work in another system, this is a good indicator that the disc is damaged or defective. To acquire a replacement game disc, you will want to refer to your manual for warranty information specific to your product.
Some Playstation systems, especially the older models, have trouble reading some newly manufactured Playstation 2 game disks. Sony recommends using their Auto Diagnosis tool (http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps2/hardwaresystem/default.html) to resolve this issue.
First try this if it does not work try doing my way of fixing it
This is what the PlayStation Forum says: 1. Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. • Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. • Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. • Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. • System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies

if you have the 60GB sos mate they have alot of problems

it shows a disc read error on games that aren't even scratched and i had a game that was scratched and in skiped alot in game play but when i got the same game brand new it had the same problem
If you're getting a Disc Read Error, you may need to clean the disc. Inspect it for scratches. Is it the only PSX game that won't work? If all your PSX games won't read, you should clean the lens of your PS2, although the read errors are a sign of lens damage.
well the playstation 2 isnt reading the disc. most likely there is a small crack or scratch on the disc. try cleaning it with small amounts of water. to much water can permantly damage the disc
