Sound Card Problem

Right-click on My Computer and go to properties. Under the Hardware tab click Device Manager. Your video card should be under "Display adapters" and your sounds card should be under "Sound, video and game controllers". If the information's not there, then you'd have to open the case and physically check the components.

as i can understand you formatted using win xp so your drivers are not installed like VGA, sound driver.
you must have your motherboard cd use that disk to install drivers.

you have to install the sound driver from your motherboard disk.if you dont have it then download it from the official website of your motherboard brand.

do you have Onboard soundchip? or pci slot sound card?

if you have onboard soundchip..just try to install your motherboard cd installer,the sound driver is included in it. if you lost the cd,try to download it from its brand website.

if you have pci slot sound card. try to find from the card its name,brand and model and try to find and download the driver from the net.

take the side of the computer off and look for the model number on your motherboard. you need to know if your using a network card or if its onboard Lan. if everything you need is onboard all you need to do is search your motherboard number on the internet and download the drivers. you need can select what you need, sound, lan etc. your goning to have to use a friends pc so you can download these files. when your Lan is installed go to the microsoft webpage and get the latest updates, that will solve the usb in your device manager

Use a Program named free Everest Home Edition
setps:
1) Scan Ur PC
2) Google the Card u need Shown There
3) Install
4) Enjoy =)

Give some more details abt ur Laptop, like Brand Name and all the stuff, i thnk u need to install the sound card drievrs to ur Hard Ware, Go to Controll Pannel then Click of Sound and Audio Devices. If ur sound card drievrs are installed, u can chane the setting on the first tab and the third tab (Volume and Audio) ,,, Try it friend
