The gas valve should not be opening unless the glow igniter glows and sends a signal to the gas valve. I suspect a small leak in either the gas pipe or at the gas valve. You will have to get to the gas valve to perform a leak test. While the dryer is open, replace the igniter.

I have turned off main gas line to dryer and have checked that and the connecting line to dryer and see no leakage but I still have an odor of gas in dryer itself. what should I check next?

check the line inside leading to the flame igniter and glo bar, how did u check for gas leak? just smell or sight? try using a mixture of water and dish detergent by spraying it on the lines while gas is on, and if u see bubbles u got gas leak?

Odor

if you have a bad odor, pull off the vent line from the back and see if an animal is dead there,i've found dead birds, mice and a possum,in the blower wheel of some dryers, they get in from the outside hood, once they get into the vent line and slide down they can't climb back out or if the dryer is running the wheel does a job on them.also if you had some painting or staining done this also can make the dryer smell bad.this is going by what i've found when someone complains about an odor in the dryer.hope this helps, one more thing if the motor is overheating from the dryer not being cleaned out it could have like a shellac smell, you might have to take the dryer apart to see what's stinking or it could be something near the dryer, when the air is heated in the dryer it makes the smell worse but if you find waht is causing it and remove it the smell will go away,if it is from a dead animal you can wash down the area with soapy water, you don't want to use anything with a strong smell because your clothes will smell of that when the dryer heats up.what does it smell like?

I have just remodeled a old condo with new toilets and I am getting a strong gas smell. How can I get rid of it. I am in Thailand and the building is 22 years old.

jajoy,

Did you connect the sanitary pipe stack to the sewer line that takes away the flushed effluent? Check to see that the pipe is connected, not leaking sewer gas, not plugged up with an animal carcass, and that the pipe extends through your roof three feet past the roof line (keeps smell out of house).

Strong odor coming from dryer

Usually when there is a strong heat (burn) smell from the heat element, it is telling you that there is poor air flow. This has nothing to do with the model. It is a blocked or restricted vent line, or an internal blower wheel malfunction or a lint blockage further in the machine that is restricting the air flow. WHEN AIR MOVES CORRECTLY, THE ELEMENT HEATS NORMALLY AND DOES NOT GIVE ANY OVERHEAT ODER.

Gas smell coming from oven during preheat. once oven is warmed up, smell goes away. I have a Frigidaire FGF366EBC S/N VF6289284.What would cause this?

Typically, all gas operated appliances will get a "gas smell" from time to time. What you're really smelling is the odorant (rotten egg smell) that is added into both propane and natural gas, as these gases have no smell by themselves.

The smell will vary from normal to very strong as the "receipe" for how much ordorant is added into either your propane tanks or the gas supplied to your home. Typically, when tanks start getting low, the smell is more concentrated, while with piped natural gas, the smell can be very strong at different times, based on how and when the gas company adds odorant into the main supply lines.

Usually when a gas appliance is first turned on, the smell can be rather strong, until the gas ignites. So long as your oven is lighting properly, there is nothing to worry about.

However, if you're hearing a rather loud "whoosh" sound as the oven lights, it could be that your ignitor is getting weak and might need to be replaced. If you've got a weak ignitor, it could be allowing a little bit too much gas to build up in the oven compartment before it lights, hence the reason you're smelling the gas.

You can check for a weak ignitor by simply watching the oven when you start it, if the gas lights quickly, once the ignitor is glowing brightly and you've heard the "click" of the gas valve opening (in the oven), then everything is fine.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Dryer gives off a strong odor which make my clothes smell.

if you have been painting or staining recentley the chemicals in these products are mixing with the mercaptin in the gas to cause the odour. The problem will correct itself when the fumes are gone.

Dryer smells of natural gas

Of course, this applies to gas dryers only. If you smell natural gas near your gas dryer, do not light matches or a lighter and don't operate electrical switches or anything that might spark, igniting an explosion. Immediately shut off the gas valve that serves the dryer. If the smell is mild, ventilate the area, wait until the air is clear, and re-light your pilot light. If the smell is strong, move everyone outside, leaving the doors open to ventilate the house. Turn off the gas supply valve --located by the gas meter on the gas inlet pipe-- by rotating the valve one quarter turn with an adjustable wrench. The valve's oblong stem should be perpendicular (at a right angle) to the inlet pipe to stop the flow of gas. Call your gas supplier (or the fire department) from a neighbor's phone or a cellular phone outside the house.
