Depressing my shutter button on my Fuji FinePix E550 causes it to turn off. When I turn it back on there is a no image message. Is it cheaper to buy a new camera than to have it fixed? Thanks for help

You just need new batteries. That's what the E550 does when the batteries get too low. Please get the latest rechargables. Many of the ordinary AA batteries won't last 50 pictures. Fuji also is rather poor telling you how to charge the rechargables. When the screen goes blue when you take a picture, you must use the camera's de=charging system before recharging--otherwise the rechargables will not take a full charge--that's what's likely happened to you!

I was recently given the FinePix E550 by someone who had purchased a newer camera. I do not have the usb cord to download pix and my Dell 942 All-in-One will not recognize the camera card. What do I need...

Hi

The problem you are experiencing with your Fuji FinePix E550 could be down to a number of reasons.

You do not say the memory card size you are using but the Dell 942 will probably only read cards xD-Picture Cards 1Gb or lower.

It maybe a better idea to remove the xD card from the camera and use a USB card reader to take the images off the card. Alternatively you could buy a replacement USB cable

Hope the suggestions help.

Best settings to capture fireworks?

It's a little difficult with this camera since the slowest shutter speed is 3 secs. You need to have the timing right to get the best result:
Set mode dial to M, Select shutter speed with 4-way switch up and down : 3 secs. Now select Aperture: Hold down +/- button and select aperture with the same 4-way button, up and down. Choose F8, which is the smallest opening. You need to have the camera on a tripod when taking the picture. If the picture gets to dark, adjust the aperture. If it gets to light, you adjust the shutter speed, making the timing even more difficult.

Fuji E550 Date

Not in the camera. The Fuji Frontier lab equipment can do it for you. Ask at the shop. You can also add to the image in software, but it's time-consuming.

Images are round not rectangular

If you are using an accessory telephoto lens, you will need to zoom out to about midway or further in order to fill the image frame.

An accessory lens called a "fisheye" may not cover to the edges of your image. Even wide-angle accessory lenses may show vignetting (a darkening of the corners) or unsharpness in the corners of the image.

Fuji Finepix E550 no manual focus

It works fine for me. Reember it works ONLY in P mode. The problem is due to the Fuji E550 does not provide focus indicator, you have to judge the image to see when the object is in right focus.
