Connect the vcr to the dvd recorder via scart. Set TV to your usual dvd channel and power on dvd. Power on vcr and scroll through input channels (AV etc) on dvd recorder until you find the signal from vcr. Prepare the recorder ready to record, then play the vcr and start the dvd to record.
OK here's what the user manual has to say on it!

No you cannot - This is a DVD *PLAYER* / VCR combo - which means it features a DVD player & VHS recorder in one - you cannot record onto DVD - You can however watch a DVD while recording your tv program on the VCR.
I hope this answers your question.
If you want to convert your VHS to DVD you will need to purchase a standalone DVD recorder - I personally do not reocmmend the DVD recorder / VCR combos - or you can use a HDD/DVD recorder which stores recordings on a hard drive and later you can burn them on DVD, they allow editing, more flexible recording options, etc
.
okay, if you have a cable box (cable out plug to dvd/vcr in), then from the dvd/vcr (cable out plug to tv/monitor). make sure tv/monitor and dvd/vcr are set to ch #3. you swith channels with the cable box ,you are not going to be able to record HBO on dvd (but you can with the vcr), any other cable ch(tnt, history, tbs,we, oxygen and more) is recordable w/ both dvd/vcr
no cable box. take cable wire plug to dvd/vcr in, than other wire is connected to tv/monitor
now go to dvd/vcr with remote, menu, set to catv, scan channels. now when you wish to look at tv the dvd/vcr must be on at all times. again you will not be able to record Premium ch like HBO
hope this help............pls feel free to rate
You need to buy Sony DVD Recorder and hook Sony VCR to that dvd recorder and burn DVD directly. You can also watch VCR tape movie on TV via dvd recorder while its being burn on dvd. Click Sony Style to select DVD recorder.
hook the video output from vcr to dvd input at rear, then hook output from dvd to tv input. note; you can not record protected vcr movies you can only record tv shows from sattelite to vcr or dvd recorder. its best to record straight from sattelite to dvd recorder for picture clarity.
