I have a Dell Dimension 8400 P4 3.2G w/XP Media Center V2002. Just replace the HD due to a crash of orig HD. Cannot get the TV to work. Get the following error msg - Decoder Error - The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed. Please restart Media Center and/or the computer. Any ideas for correction?

Reinstall the Recovery Disk, and chose Repair, or Non-Destructive Installation.

Sounds like the driver for the TV Tuner is not installed, or the video and audio drivers may not be installed properly.
Mine was always a bit wonky in XP, works like a charm in Vista or Windows 7 though

Reinstalled Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 8400 and The local area connection is not detected. Cannot seem to find drivers through Dell support

Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

Set up cd rom dell dimension 8400

Hello Download drivers here at dell:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/dimension-8400

The drivers can be downloaded one by one.

You maybe need to unzip the file before you install.

Here is only drivers for win xp.

You can`t download a setup disk but you can call dell support
to order the software from them (if they still have it) by the service tag.

Good luck

Dell 8400 Boots to Black Error Screen in XP States to reinstall System 32

This might be caused by hard-drive failure. You should run hard drive test from BIOS to make sure hard drive is ok. You can access BIOS by pressing F2 during start up, from there start hard disk self test and wait for it to complete.

If hard drive is ok after test, insert in your original Windows installation media and reinstall OS.

My windows media center 2005, can't install media?

if you have the OS installed then that tells me you need the sound card drivers. Go to this page:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=2684&l=en&s=pub&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Choose your operating system, then go underneath where it says audio and choose the one that says driver.

Download it and then install it and you should have sound then.

Dell dimension 8440

Do you have any USB devices connected to your computer. Disconnect your USB devices and restart your computer. Keep tapping the F1 key to go to the BIOS. Fress F5 and then F10 and wait till the computer boots to the desktop. And check if it would still shut down. If yes, then probably the issue is with the motherboard.
