If you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

Hi, Maxtor 90645D3 hardrive deletion manual jumpersettings.

Basic jumper settings for Maxtor ATA Hard Drives

Thank you for purchasing your new ATA hard drive from Other World Computing! Please

review these jumper settings prior to installing your new hard drive into your computer.

You may want to review more detailed information about the installation process, or

the location and configuration of your existing internal ATA drive before proceeding.

Your manual that came with your computer can be of assistance in both of these

determinations.

A few notes about installing an ATA hard drive into your existing system:

Your existing drive is normally configured one of two ways, Master (single drive), or

Cable Select. You will want to determine this before installing your new drive, the easiest

way is to remove the existing drive from your system and visually inspect it's hard drive

jumpers. Most hard drives have a schematic either silk screened onto the case of the

drive, or the schematic is on a label near the jumper pins. If you have difficulty locating

this information, visit the hard drive manufacturer's website.

If your existing hard drive is configured as "Master", then set your new hard drive

to "Slave". If your existing drive is set for "Cable Select", then set your new drive to

"Cable Select" also. You can change the existing jumper settings on the original drive

to suit your needs, but we recommend following these instructions first to verify proper

operation of the new hard drive.

Installing jumpers on the new drive is a simple process, follow the schematic to

configure your drive.

Please note the configuration of

the internal ATA cable already

installed in your existing system.

If your internal cable is configured

differently than pictured here,

you may want to replace it before

installing a new hard drive to

achieve maximum performance.

Take Three: I have an older Maxtor Hard DriveTake Two: I have an older Maxtor Hard Drive (Model 90645D3). I need to transfer some files from it (Win98SE) to new hard drive (WinXP Pro). I asked earlier and...

Jumper off will set the drive to slave. If you can connect both drives to the same ribbon cable with the master on the end & the slave to the second connector. Look at your bios as win is booting up to see if shows the drive as slave, you will not be able to copy windows as a operating system off of the drive, but should be able to copy files.

Good luck on your endevors.

I have an older Maxtor hard drive Model 90645D3. How do I put it in slave mode so that I can transfer files to my newer XP's hard drive? Thanks, Rad I think I have the rest of the process figured out.

Hello

At the back of the drive, you should be able to see the jumper setting. There must be a small jumper in as well. Have a look at the pic, and just set it to slave and you should be set.

I have a maxtor 90645d3 i need to make it my master drive...can u tell me the jumper settings plz

On the back of the drive you should see 3 groups of 2 pins. One probably already has the plastic jumper on it. They should be marked: m s cs. The m mis the master setting. s is slave & cs is cable select. Place the jumper onto the group of pins marked m & your drive is now set to master. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
