It's on, then it's off

My MT1050 turns on, displays picture, then about 2 minutes it shuts off. Status light blinks red for approx. 6 seconds and power light is steady orange. The manual only offers a 4 second and 8 second solution. Can someone tell me what might be wrong? Thanks

The fan is running, the vents are not obstructed, and the filters are all clean. Once it goes throught the shut down and the fan turns off, it will turn right back on again. Any other thoughts?

  • dna11207 Feb 15, 2008

Do you know if this is repairable? Also, I have searched hi and low for a repair manual for this unit and have had no luck. Thank you again.

Does someone know where the thermal cutout is located in this unit? Should it have gone bad in only 748hrs of use?

  • dna11207 Feb 16, 2008

I bypassed the thermal cutout and it is still doing the same thing. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thank you again.

  • dna11207 Feb 16, 2008

We have a 'new' symptom the projector will stay on and running with no problems if it is sitting on it's back.

  • dna11207 Feb 17, 2008

Well, I am going to assume that you are right that there was or is something loose that the pressure of having it on its back or upside down (which we hadn't tried till late last night) is reconnecting or what have you.... needless to say it is working just fine now thankfully, it was becoming a little aggravating to say the least.... thank you so much for your input we do appreciate it, now if we could just get a remote for it that don't cost $200 we would be good to go.

Is the fan running properly or are any vents blocked?
Sounds like it is overheating.

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2008

Might just be that the thermal cutout is going bad inside the unit. Shutting off at to low a temperature.

Sounds like the most likely cause. They do change properities as they get older.

That last line you put there has me totally baffled.
I honestly have been thinking about it all day and running fine
    sitting on its back.
Other then disconnecting and reconnecting plugs and connectors, and possibly turning it on it's back is reconnecting a broken or cold solder connection, I honestly don't know.
Actually, when I got that message on my blackberry I had to laugh.
A bad connection, where laying it on its back puts enough pressure on is the only thing that makes any sense now.
You sure are persistent I have to admit.
Wish I could give you a better answer.

Status light is blinking red, power button orange nec vt700

Hello
Look at the number of blinks of the status light.
[1] If it blinks at one cycle (0.5seconds On and 2.5seconds OFF) : Lamp cover error or lamp housing error. Replace the lamp cover or lamp housing correctly.
[2] If it blinks 2 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Temperature error. The projector is overheated. Move the projector to a cooler position.
[3] if it blinks at 4 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Fan error. Fans sill not work correctly.
[4] If it bliks at 6 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Lamp fails to light. Wait a full minute and then turn on again.
[5] If it blinks continous (Red): Lamp has reached the end of its life. Lamp replacement messege will be displayed. Replace Lamp with same type and number. After replacement reset lamp hour. OK.

Turned tv on 2night had picture and sound for approx 3 minutes then tv turned itself off had 2 flashing red lights turned tv back on no picture or sound then turned itself off again

B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Status indicator flashes 3 short times, then one long red flash

Once the status light blinks 3 times, this is an indication that there's a problem with the lamp. The lamp may need a replacement.

If you replace the lamp, but get the same problem, check the inverter board.

If you're not sure where the inverter board is, then you may need to contact a pro for your safety.

Good luck and have a good evening!
