My LaCie BigDisk has a blue light when I plug it in but nothing happens, can't hear or feel it whirring. Can it be fixed? How?

Well if it is less than 2 or 3 years old you could contact them to attempt a sawp out of the drive. Over that - replace the unit. IF you do - you might want to consider a duel disk enclosure so if a drive dies, your data does not. you can build one yourself (1 TB duel drives, Raid 1) for a total of 252 bucks, with good drives (Seagate - Barracuda) Yes I swear by the Seagate Drive. For off teh shelf they have worked very well in every application I have deployed them.

I've been burned by too many single drive failures - even when I have the data backed up it is still a royal pain.

Power Light comes on, no function what so ever

Check to make sure that the FireWire or USB cables are
correctly attached and firmly seated in both the drive and
computer's FireWire or USB ports. Disconnect them, wait 30
seconds, and reconnect them. If the drive is still not
recognized, restart your computer and try again. If they are
correctly connected and your drive still does not power on,
trying using the optional power sharing cable, described in
section 2.3 Connecting the Optional Power Supply of the LaCie Mobile Hard Drive User Manual.

Hi! Having some trouble with a friends laptop here. I have it on AC power and the battery is now charged (middle light has changed from amber to blue). So when I push the power button, the top light...

Hi.

Try unplugging AC power lead and then take out the laptops battery, plug the AC power lead back in and try turning it on, see what happens. If the laptop turns on then there is a problem with the battery.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Regards.

When driving, I can hear a whirring noise, at the same time my battery light flashes and my headlights and inner lights go dim and get bright in time to the whirring noise. I feel like there's a short...

sounds like the alternator is bad. take it to a local Major auto chain, even sears and they will test it for free. If you have a volt meter test the voltage at the battery with the lights on. Should be above 13 volts. hope this helps. If you need more help get back to me and we'll go from there. Please rate my fix as i strive to be the best Thanks Ray. PS the whining noise is probaably from the bearings in the Alternator

Lights on but no one at home

you'll need to add it in my computer, as a logical external drive...

and when plugging into usb, recommend plugging in when it's powered down, not when it's active.

Lacie hard drive nonfunctional

I ran into this issue this week with my lacie big disk 500G external. Unit would power on when plugged into a pc blue light would flash and nothing no connection ding from windows.
Blue front light would flash repetedly slight ticking sound from drives but no connection i finally fixed this and gained access to my data by opening up the case and pluging my pc 12v connectors into both drives to power them up but leaving them connected to the lacie internals worked instantly and ive since copyed all my data off my 500 and will just transplant the drives to internal use on my pc. you cannot connect the drives internally and then copy the data due to the fact that they are raid 0 stripped drives so this hybrid setup works if your external case isnt powering up the drive correctly as mine wasnt.
