PX-708A Drive not working

Doesn't show up on My Computer.
Drive doesn't open or close except manual (paper clip).

Solution is to disconnect CD Rom drive cables. Reboot. Shut off. Reboot with cables reconnected. This solves my problem.

This drive does not have power. First open the case and check power cable to make sure it is properly seated. If your power supply has additional power connections of that type, try swapping them (it is a 4 pin molex connector used for IDE hard drives and CD drives). You might want to use a multimeter to check the power output on those connectors.

If the power supply is providing sufficient power and properly seated, it could be the drive itself has failed. (The power is not getting past some part in the drive. I do not do CD drive disassembly so I don't know if there is a fuse or some ofher component that you should look for having been damaged.) With IDE DVD-R/W devices being available for $30 or less, it isn't worth the time to search. Replacing it with a new one is simple.

I hope this helps.

Cd tray eject button doesn t work - paper clip trick doesn't help

the "paper clip trick" isn't a trick. It is a MANUAL way to open the door far enough to pull it open and remove the contents. Straighten out the clip. Place it through the tiny hole just above the eject button. Be sure to push it straight in. When you feel resistance, push HARD. the door should open about a halt inch and allow you pull it all the open. It will not open automatically from a paper clip.

Cd drive in my acer aspire x1700 doesn't open

You are going to need a paper clip. Look fo a small hole next to the switch. straighten the paper clip and put it in the hole in the center. carefully push to activate the mechansium to open the door. Then you can troubleshoot the door. Turn off the computer then pull the power cord from it. Open the computer case find the power cable to the cdrom/dvdcdrw and push it in to make sure you have good connection. If it still doesn't work after this then you can get a new drive for less than $30.00 (usd)

Hope this helps,

Can not open cd drive door....it wont ejct

Get a large paperclip and poke it into the tiny hole to the left of the eject button. Keep pushing until it "connects" and it will open.

Player seems to have eaten the DVD. Will not release it so can be ejected

If it's a desktop, you can manually eject the disk. Turn off your computer and press a paper clip or other small object into the little hole on the front of the DVD drive. You need to apply a little force, but the tray should slide out far enough for you to remove the disk.

My compaq presario f767nr disc drive won't open.

Hey there,
Check on the drive itself for a small pinhole, about the size of a small paper clip. If you see anything like this, then stick the point of a small paper clip or a pin into that hold. This will manually open the drive. It could just be that something is stuck.

Once it's open, turn on the computer, close the drive, then try opening it again.
If this doesn't resolve the issue you are experiencing, or if you require any additional information, simply return to this page and submit a response. I'll be happy to assist you further.

Plextor px-708a will not recognize disks. Just removed a second DVD drive from the system and jumpered px-708a as MASTER. The system recognizes the drive; it just will not read.

as you've changed the configuration of the drive from slave to master you need to go into the bois and change the settings for the drive so that it reads the px as master cd drive

My PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A DOESN'T RECOGNIZE CD.

Go to Plextor.com and download the firmware update. If you have the 708A-UF model, make sure you install the firmware update using a USB cable. Using a firewire cable to do the update can cause a data corruption problem with the firmware update.

Well we have a acer computer and the cd drive is stuck

If pressing the eject button does not eject the tray, look for the small pin hole on the cd drive and insert a paper clip to press that hole. It would manually eject your CD tray. Hope this helps.

The plextor dvdr px 708a stopped working

Hi,

Thanks for coming to FixYa, The problem you have is either a well documented software problem, corrupted plextor software or a failing drive.

Click the below link, then scroll down and click the "Fix It" button. Follow the onscreen instructions, restart when it's done and see if your drive re-appears. If it does, you're done, if it doesn't work then try re-installing the plextor software. Again if that doesn't work then your drive is most likely failed and you should replace it.

Hope this helps FixYa,
