Water steams away and nothing drips into the caraffe

The coffee side of my Krups 867 not longer drips into the pot (glass caraffe). The water steams away (steaming up the kitchen) but nothing drips into the pot. Espresso side works fine.

water is not dripping into carafe - it stays in the place where you pour the water in

  • miriam83 May 11, 2010

This happens with my machine because the carafe is not triggering the spring-loaded stop-n-serve mechanism. Have you examined that part of your machine?

The black handle is for a Cuisinart Model DCC1150 stainless caraffe. The pot is intact, with attachment screws remaining.

I had this problem too and finally found a fix for it.

I don't know if the cause of this issue is the same for everyone experiencing the problem, but the issue for me was hard water. The fix is to run vinegar mixed with water through the machine quite a few times, until it starts to run normally.

If you do have hard water issues, it's recommended that you run vinegar or citric acid through the machine about once a month, to keep deposits from building up.

How do i clean my stainless steel krups coffee maker before use model kt 611d50

Just run one full pot of cold water through it. Do not add coffee. Then it is ready for use. Caution - Do not make coffee right away because you can break the glass carafe by adding cold water to a hot carafe. Also the hot plate would be very hot too.

Why won't the hot water empty into the coffee pot?

Make sure your caraffe has its lid on , and check the bottom of the filter. it usually has a valve preventing coffee from leaking when you remove the caraffe. the lid pushes the valve back open when you place the caraffe back into the machine.

If I put 6 cups of water in when it is done there is left only 4

The good news is there is nothing wrong with your coffee maker!

With any coffee maker that heats up the water, you're going to lose some of that water to the heating process (steam, etc.). You also don't get every bit of water out of the machine.

So that's why you need to look at the water reservoir level indications instead of using the graduations marked on the glass coffee carafe.

Typically, once you've figured out how you coffee maker works, I'd just "add" 2 more cups of water in the glass coffee carafe to get the amount of cups you want to brew.

I know my coffee maker is pretty close to exactly 2 cups shy of whatever I put in the glass carafe that I pour into my coffee maker. That's when I noticed the markings inside the water reservoir that didn't match the coffee pot. It was always 2 cups shy, so I just put 8 cups of water (using the carafe) to get 6 cups in the morning.

So I suggest you just you make these small adjustments to your water measuring and you'll get the right amount of brewed coffee out of your machine!

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Takes forever to make a pot of coffee

Decalcify the water holder. Run some CLR and water thru the brew cycle.

Mineral/calcium buildup

I'm curious about the performance of the heater on this pot. Your output temp should be about 180 degrees F. Allow some of the water to run through the system and into a large mug. Measure the temp. If it is low, your problem may be the thermostat.

It is no longer brewing really hot coffee. I drained all the water out and now I am wondering how many caraffes of water to put in initally?

Oh no. ... ok don't panic.... put in the same amount of water your coffee Caraffe holds. If the coffee maker is one of the kinds I recall, it holds water and heats it while you pour in another pot, it pushes the hot water out to fill your caraffee pot. Then you will have to add one more pot only.

When the water quits heating it is a heating element that is acting up. Sometimes the fuse finally gives up. The trick is locating and removing fuse, and replace heating element. These require a service tech to do because of soldering, and making sure the electrical parts are put back in place properly.

Long brewing time

Clean it out with 1/3 caraffe distilled white vinegar and 2/3 caraffe water. Once it is clean, it should take the normal amount of time and will make slightly less noise since it isn't busy steaming off as much water. Also, double-check the filter basket and make sure it is not slowing down the rate of draining coffee.

Icky stuff

I would suggest to disassemble the machine and clean individual parts, chunky orange is rust, which is not normal in the coffee machine tubing.

Krups 867 boiler steam leak

Save yourself the trouble, buy a $1.99 frother at Ikea.  Makes the cleaning process easy - that's what I use at home, never used the steam wand on my machine.
To use the frother, just heat up the milk and froth away.  Pretty easy.
