using wrong firmware bricks any device.
why not ask them them what to do?, bricked. or not.
if not bricked yet, ask them
learn that firmware matches (matter most)
    maker
    model
    HW version 1,2,3, etc.
    and year.
do not guess learn to ask them 2 things what binary.ROM file matches, and what are the proper steps.

    or brick it you will.
ASK THEM! they have web site, go there and click contact

    https://www.linksys.com/us/support-artic...

there are 3 versions, and only safe from makers web site, do not use any other web sites EVER.
that page is clear as day but the page fails to tell you what version means, it means HW or hardware version
do not use the wrong one, or wrong methods.

and the page has no link to the manual. that tells how to do that .
last update 2012, 9 years ago.

step 1, turn the router upside, down, see that sticker see V1 V2, V3 there.?? that is hardware version 1 to 3.
step 2 get the correct manual first on 3 or 4 versions, only read your correct manual
step 3, get the binary rom file for YOUR version and no others, from makers web site, v1,2,3,.
    Step 4, burn the firmware(update)
    page 25 here
    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/254051...

i see that 2 of the 3 version have no update. are you lost?

There are 3 variants of the WRT54G2 , v1, v3 and v5 ensure that you choose the right firmware for the variant(its on the bottom of the router)
Go to the US site as this has more uptodate versions of the firmware.
For example v1 in the UK is at 1.0.0.0 dated 2008
v1 from the US site is 1.0.0.4 dated 2009

I have a modem cable connection with time Warner cable but router isn't connecting to modem what can I do

Hello,
I install Linksys routers all the time. Usually the first thing I do, is update the routers firmware. Many times I find that if the Linksys router doesn't automatically get a connection from DHCP, updating the firmware usually solves it.

To update the firmware:
Connect just to the cable box so you have an active internet connection.
1. Go to: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54G2/download
2. Select your router version (can be found on the sticker near the model number) and download the latest firmware to a spot you will remember.
3. Now connect the router to your cable modem and computer.
4. Access your routers configuration page (If you don't know the address try: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1).
5. Log-in - if you haven't changed the username/password the default should be a blank username with the password "admin".
6. Click "Administration"
7. Click "Firmware Upgrade"
8. Click "Browse" and choose the firmware file you downloaded in step 2.
10. Click Upgrade. Be patient and let it do its thing.

See if you connect after that. If not, let me know and I will walk you through the next steps.

Whenever I try to upgrade my firmware it keeps saying upgrade failed. What can I do?

Reset the router to factory defaults and try again. It probably has a small reset button in a hole that you have to press using a pen or paperclip etc.

Power led is blinking after I upgrade firmware

Something went wrong during the upgrade of your firmware. If you were upgrading the firmware from Linksys website you need to call their tech support and have them replace it for you. If you were trying to hack it with a 3rd party firmware you probably need to go buy another one and maybe consider using the firmware it comes with. You cannot restore the device because the flash killed the restore function. Your device is cooked. Put some BBQ sauce on it and serve it for dinner.

A friend gave me a WRT54G2 without firmware

Are you able to get to the gui of the router?
If you are able to get inside the routers Gui then that would be a good sign.
Do the following:
1. Go to this site http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G2/download and select the version. I would suggest you to get the latest.
2. Save it to your desktop. Then extract the file.
3. launch into the router gui
4. Click on Administration then select Upgrade firmware
5. Click on the Browse button and then select desktop then chose the extracted file.
6. Click on the Upgrade button and just follow the on-screen instructions. Normally you just have to select Next.

Power Light Blinks, can't communicate with Linksys Network Adapte

Seems to be a common issue among these routers. If you tried to upgrade the firmware via wireless connection then it will generally fail. It is recommended to upgrade through the wired connection. In most cases if the upgrade failed and will not reset, most likely the firmware on the router has been damaged. Your best bet is to purchase a new router.

Connecting issues with wireless mode on WRT54G2

  1. Try to disable WEP in the router and check if the wireless computer will be able to connect to the router and Internet.
  2. Then enable WEP again. If the same problem happens, upgrade the firmware of your router.
  3. Click on the link for the lastest firmware available for your router.

Firmware Upgrade Failed

Firmware upgrade is a simple but a delicate procedure. Make sure you are loading the correct firmware. You should get your firmware from the website of your router. Installing a THIRD PARTY firmware to your router voids the warranty of your router. Here is a tip for a successful firmware upgrade. BEFORE FIRMWARE UPGRADE(push the reset button of the router for 30 seconds then unplug the power of the router for 10 seconds). Upgrade the firmware. After the upgrade push the reset button again for 30seconds, unplug power for 10 seconds.
