Tappet clearance and spark plug gap on 5.5 hp ohv engine, i have a generator which runs on natural gas made by china i just want to know the gap of tappet and the spark plug gap

I have a Robin but they all are pretty much the same for plug gap and tappets. I worked in a lawnmower small engine repair shop for many years in San Diego
I set them all the same and never had one return. I just did mine a couple of months ago and hand lapped the intake and exhaust valve seats. Starts first time everytime like the 7.5 year old unit is new!!!

Plug gap 0.19

Intake .005 cold
Exhaust .006 cold.

It has a misfire while running. The engine has low hours starts easily and runs well. No dirt in the carburetor, valve clearances are correct and I have replaced the spark plug.

Is it hard to change a magneto on a 5.5 hp Tecumseh engine?
How old is the gas in the tank? If it is older than 2 months drain it out and put in fresh gas and try again. Have you seen spark jump across the spark plug gap? To check for spark I use a spark checker. One end goes to the plug and the other to the spark plug lead. If you have spark you see a light flash which is more easy to see.

Winco PSS8000 Standby Generator won't start
This question is too vague to give you a good answer. But since it's coming up very high on Google searches, and I recently solved the same problem on the same generator, I thought I'd add a few notes here for others.

In my case, the engine would take a lot of cranking before it would start, and eventually refused to start altogether. If your engine won't even crank, ignore the rest of this, you have a different problem (starter, battery, cables, or solenoid).

I'm also going to assume that you've checked easy stuff like the fuel supply, spark plug wires attached, etc. The PSS8000 runs on propane or natural gas. If it's cranking for a while and not starting, you should smell gas (not gasoline, gas like the gas grill before you light it). If not, then you have a fuel problem.

In my case, all the usual stuff was fine but still no start. The problem was: low compression caused by negative valve clearance. Apparently gaseous fuels wear valves and seats faster than gasoline -- as a result the valve clearance (which is supposed to be a small positive amount) is reduced so the valves are basically held open a tiny bit all the time. This causes several nasty problems, but in my case the main one was low compression. As a result of that, the engine had a hard time starting.

So in addition to all of the usual stuff (plugs, spark, fuel, etc.) check your valve clearance -- you're supposed to do it every season anyway. On my engine the correct clearance is 0.004-0.006" for both intake and exhaust.

1o h.p. generator, starts fine, runs good for short periods then kind of sputters, a single sputter, but every second or so and will run like that for hours, thought running would help, didn't.
I realize you have a 10 Hp Briggs engine. The symtom your describing is often caused by the valve lash gap being to narrow on the EXHAUST valve. You may have a 0.001 gap cold but when it warms up that gap is less and you get just a bit of compression blow by but not enough to impede power output. Over time it will usually get harder and harder to start. The remedy is to reset the valve tappet gap
Depending on what engine you have the GN series the gap for intake and exhaust is 0.002 with the flywheel directly at TDC.
Standard OHV Briggs are adjusted with the flywheel 1/4 inch past TDC to a gap of .004 - .006.
The Jam nuts are torqued 65 - 85 inch lbs

Non OHV engines L-head are adjusted .004 intake and .006 Exhaust at TDC by changing valve stem length with a grinder or replacing the valve if necessary.

If you still have the problem after doing the above... replace the spark Plug... (again even if yours is new) After spark plug replacement you still have the problem respond here and I will help you until this is resolved.

This could also be a case of the fuel mixture just a tad lean..

It's a natural gas operated. 16 hp. turns over and over like it's not choking. if I finally get it started it runs and sounds fine.

From your Description it Sounds like a Blown Head Gasket between the Push Tube Galley and the Cylinder, the Valve Clearance Requires Setting or the Flywheel Key is Damaged and Requires Replacing.
