The password it is asking is the password you gave when you set up the router. Well. before going further, if I may ask, Have you gone to the web page http://192.168.1.1 and used the username: admin, and password as password or 1234? Have you set up the information in that page? If not you need to do that. At that time it will request you a password. And it will ask you for the type of security you need. WEP is one of the choices you can opt which means wired equivalent privacy. Such connection needs you to provide a password. Every time you try to connect a new device like a laptop or PSP it will ask you for this password. If you have doubts about this procedure easiest way is to call the customer support. They will take you step by step. Please note at times it could involve half an hour to complete the whole process. Having said that it would be a good idea to choose WPA. This Wi-Fi protected access. You can further enhance security by choosing Mac filter. Honestly, it is not an extremely difficult process. You can try on your own. Mac address filtering means every device like computer or PSP has a device address. ONce you use MAC filtering The net work will only allow those devices. Every time you wnat to add a new device you can go online and add that mac address there and then add that device to your network. Good Luck.

The WEP and WPA key is configured in the router's wireless settings.
WPA is a stronger encryption than the older WEP encryption, I suggest you use WPA or better still WPA2.
To secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and the wireless card in the computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have a new Netear Router & I'm trying to hook up my Kindle which wants a password

Network Key (WEP, WPA, WPA2 Encryption key)To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Lap top asking internet security key

The security key is the wireless router's encryption key.
Depending upon the wireless router's settings this encryption key could be the WEP or WPA or WPA2 or a passphrase. The encryption key can be generated using a phrase (passphrase) which generates a group of hexadecimal numbers.

I have a wpn824-2 and I am trying to set up a connection from my lap top. It is asking me for a network key or wep key. Where do I find it?

You can get the WEP or Network Security Key from the Router.

Login to the Router as follows (make sure that it is connected to the Computer using LAN-Wired connection):

1. Start the Web Browser like Internet Explorer or Firefor or Safari.

2. Type 192.168.1.1 as the URL.

3. Type "admin" as user name and as "password" as password.

4. Go to the "Wireless Settings" option.

5. Set the Wireless Network Password (either WEP or WPA key) will be listed next to Security Encryption.

You may also use any third party utility to get the Wireless Security key save in the Computer (in which wireless connection is working and key is saved).

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My HP configuration says there is no IP address and cannot find the network even though it lists NETGEAR on my HP. I cannot print from my desk top or my laptop. I know the router(?) works because I have...

when you run the wireless setup wizard .. after it searches the network , it will ask for the WEP key or WPA key.. you need to enter the key correctly and that key is also case sensitive .. so enter that key carefully.. after it gets connected then run the installation or run the add a device option which comes in the installation cd..
check if it works..

I need the netkey or webkey for my wgr614v8 netgear router. I can't connect to the internet from my laptop. It keeps asking for my netkey.

You need to connect to the web interface of the router from a PC, using a standard ethernet cable.

You then set the Wireless encryption (WEP key or WPA passphrase) in the Netgear router. Goto www.netgear.com to find the manual for your router if you don't have one.

You then have to set the same WEP key or WPA value in the laptop computer.

My wireless connection is unsecured I'm using a Netgear router, what do I do to secure my line?

1. Goto your web browser
2. Type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (depending on which Netgear router, just try both).
3. Type "admin" for username and "admin" for password.
4. Click on "Wireless settings" on the left frame of the router setup page.
5. Security options are on the main frame of the page now (under security options). Click on WEP and enter a WEP ID (make it unique).
6. Click on "Apply" and repair your wireless connection. It should prompt you for a WEP key.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Laptop not responding to my belkin

You would have to login to the router and see what the encryption level is, i.e. WEP or WPA, then you should see a obscure key checkbox, uncheck it to see the plaintext of the passphase, if the checkbox is unchecked when you log in then you should be able to see exactly what they are... Hope this helps!

Netgear kwgr614 does not connect

Hi - dlund - is this a new router? If so, did you use the disk and follow the instructions? ( sorry, I have to ask?) Assuming everything is connected correctly, what's your machine make and model#? If it's a laptop is it a card you plugged in or did it come installed? Try this: Unplug your modem and router. After about 60 seconds plug in your modem. When all the lights come on(except the activity light) ,plug in your router. Give it ten seconds and try it. Also, is your router protected by a WPA or WEP key? Try these things, answer these questions, let me know. Thanks.
