Is it possible to set up a wireless connection on a Presario 1275 laptop running Win 98?

As you mentioned, your Compaq Presario MV520 is using Windows 98 OS. As we all know, dial-up connection is the only available internet connection at that time so obviously Win 98 has dial-up LAN connection. However, you wanted to have wireless connection on that PC so you need to install a wireless adapter to that PC. First of all, most wireless adapters that are being used for desktop PC are wireless USB adapter, so you need to have a USB port on that PC. And also, you will need to check if the software for the wireless adapter will be accepted by the PC because since the PC is using Win 98 OS, we are not sure if the firmware of the wireless adapter will be compatible to the PC. Basically, my answer would be not possible.

It is very old laptop 1275 had windows 98.it is one of the oldest laptops

Most laptops have switch located ether on front of laptop it self or on one of the sides. If not another option they come with is FN key in lower left by Ctrl and Window Key which looks like a flag and while holding this find one of the F keys that has little antenna like symbol or like you see it when wireless is connected.

the cmos is under the aluminum of the keyboard try to remove it carefully its too easy

Need to know what..is in the laptop now and what the xp hdd is ...i can then check your problem

The presario 1275 was made in 1999, and it is more than likely the CMOS battery. this was the problem on a unit I recently repaired.

Replace the CMOS battery. If you are inclined to do it yourself, you should be able to find instructions online to disassemble the laptop yourself. when you do the job, be careful with the metal heat shield plate. It has many grounding tapes which should be re-secured when re-assembling the unit.

You should be able to find a replacement at Radio Shack (CR1220).

Is the computer Windows 98 SE [Second Edition] ?
What is the exact error message that you get ?

possibly this could be a lid switch issue, check you lid switch settings in power manager.

First check the batery hdd and ram

then go start run msconfig and remove any programs from start up

and use win xp cd to repair it

Update the BIOS or CMOS it should be fine after that.
