It will extract the water from the interior, just be sure to remove the paper filter from it before you do.

How do you change the ridgid 9 gallon wet/dry shop vac from a dry to wet vac? Is it simply changing the hose to the back fitting?

all you have to do is open it up and take the paper filter off and then it's a wet vac. If it has a foam over filter you leave that on

Using shop vac 52722-90 for wet applications

yes, the foam filter is what you should use, also make sure you remove any bag, or paper filter, the water would make it fall apart.

How do i turn the pump on to pump out the water this is a 16 gallon 5.75 peak horsepower wet dry vacuum.

If you want to get water that's in your vacuum, OUT of your vacuum, you simply need to remove the top and dump the water out. As far as I know, the Shop-Vac 962-16-00 won't "pump out" any water that's in it.

If you want to pump water from one place to another (for example, your basement to your backyard), this vacuum doesn't pump water "through" itself (like a sump pump) - it will, however, **** water up. You just need to dump it out once the vacuum is full.

Ridgid 16.5 gallon motor running with no suction

When you use the shop vac for cleaning up water you must remove the filter.

The filter is for dust particles not for water
I would replace your filter and dump the water out from the shop vac, Also after each time you vacuum up water dump it out of shop vac.

I hope this helped you happy new year!

Shop Vac

You **** up water the same way as dirt. It's designed this way, hence the name wet/dry. Just be sure not to get the water in the very top of the unit where the motor sucks the air for cooling ventilation, if water gets in there it can burn up the motor. A little hard way, personal experience, speaking there.
