Normally tiney rattley noises are just heat shields that have come loose check under the bonnet and under the car for loose heat shields also the heat shield around the cat can corode and come lose hopevthis helps ivan
Even though it sounds like it is under the armrest I would suspect the noise is a exhaust system heat shield that has a broken tack weld that is the source of the noise, raise the car off the ground and with a rubber mallet tap the exhaust heat shields, if you find a loose one buy a large band clamp (avail at hardware stores) and put it around the heat shield and tighten it up, the noise will then go away.
You didn't really post any information, but in my experience - rattling metallic sounds are usually exhaust heat shields. If you check these heat shields out, be careful not to burn yourself. Hope this helps you out :-)
Possibly a loose exhaust hanger that vibrates when traveling over a bumpy road or the Catalytic Converter Shield. The shield commonly will partially break loose and vibrate. Most exhaust shops will try to sell you a new Cat. Converter. If it's the shield, you can either try to "tack" it back up or take it off yourself.
if you remove the shield the worm gear clamp goes through a hanger the hanger is spot welded to shield I have found them unatached ,,another wa y.. remove 1 shield at time see if rattle stops ';';;' rattles are hard to find sometimes ';';';
sounds like you have something loose first track were the noise is coming from and inspect the area for loose componets if it is coming from your motor then you might need a mechanic to check it out could be something loose in there
The only way to truly rule it out is by taking off the heat shield. I took the one off my truck, ratltling stopped. If its the heat shield it probably rattles more at idle when warm than any other time.
This is more than likely the exhaust manifold heat shield. Check around the small bolts that hold the shield to the manifold. It usually cracks in a circle around the head of the bolt. Press on the top and bottom of the shield (WHEN COOL) and rock it.
You will see where the shield is cracked.
The shield is available as a service part, and is not expensive.
Find the catalytic converter under the car it should have a shield on it. Use a broomstick with the car running and hold the shield still and have someone give it a little gas. Just move from shield to shield until you find the offending shield.
Don't touch these with your hand as they can get hot fast.
Most parts houses sell a very large hose clamp to go around these shield for about $10, they will know exactly what you are looking for.
