My cd tray on my 360 wont stay shut it just keeps opening as soon as i turn my 360 on, when i try to close the tray it just opens again even when theres no disk in the tray
Either you will need it repaired or u can do it the cheap way and after the disc tray is shut put some tape over it and see if it will read it still. If not it will need to be repaired. It will only cost about $35 or free if you are still under warranty.

The very first thing, I would suggest you is to check the CD cover, as sometimes labels on CDs prevent tray to close. If that does not work then do the following. Remove disc from the tray, make sure the faceplate is on correctly. The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
•
Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
•
If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox customer support to order a replacement faceplate.
the tray doesnt stay in. does your ps2 sit on its side where the tray is sideways, or is it straight up? i think you should try rotating it to a point where it should stay shut.
try to leave it open and hold it open and turn the consel off. tehn turn the consel back on and see if it stays closed. or there mite be something inside the game drive thats not alowing it to close fully be sure the cd drive its clean of all debry
My 360 is/was having a similar problem...my 360 would say "reading disc" then "open tray". Well since my system is only about 8 months old...I opted to send it in for repair. Its under warranty. My system is in route to be fixed as we speak. I would advise you to get yours registered too.
A lot of people have this problem. Before you post, look around.
Anyway, I was able to call xbox 360 customer support. We did the troubleshooting but it still would not work, so they took my xbox 360 in for repairs. I would not try to fix it on your own because it might negate the warranty.
