Okay so now I know you have a Smart Modular PyxScape - LCD monitor (Model SV3170), with a VGA cable connector on the end of the monitor cable. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connect... ] What I need to know is what graphics interface your new computer uses. Is it a VGA, or a DVI connector, on the computer? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI_connect... ] Did your monitor come with a CD? (Installation CD that will provide drivers, and set the resolution of the monitor properly) Is the problem that you have a DVI connector on your new computer's motherboard, and the monitor cable connector you have now will not fit? Or, do you have a graphics card in your new computer, and it only has a DVI port? (Connector) If this is the problem, there is an adapter you can buy, that will use a Male VGA connector, and adapts it to fit a Female DVI connector. (Port) This is why I asked the computer information, so I would have something to go on.

What is the monitor manufacturer's name, and Model Number. What is the computers manufacturer name, Model Name, and Model Number? (Example: Compaq Presario SR1110NX. Manufacturer name: Compaq. Model Name: Presario. Model Number: SR1110NX. It's on the back of a desktop computer, or up on the side of the tower. Should be next to the Windows Product Key. It's on the bottom of a laptop)

This is an example of a VGA to DVI adapter,

http://www.directron.com/dvi.html

Note that the adapter has MALE DVI side with pins sticking out.
The obverse side is a Female VGA connection, that your Male VGA cable on the monitor, plugs into.

There is an adapter that is the other way around. Wanted to point this out, so you are not sold the wrong adapter.

I bought one at Radio Shack. (Not advertising for Radio Shack)
Price if I remember correctly was $14.99
As you can see, if I was patient I could have saved some money!

The native resolution for your PyxScape SV3170 LCD analog monitor is 1280 x 1024.
1280 pixels by 1024 pixels.

After you plug the monitor cable in, turn the monitor on, and have Windows running, the resolution may not be correct.

Should you find this to be the case, set the resolution to 1280 x 1024 in Display Property settings.

Right-click in any open area on your desktop screen. Scroll down, and left-click on Properties.
Now click on the Settings tab, all the way to the right.

Under the blue Screen Resolution heading in the middle of the window. It should state 1280 x 1024.
If not, left-click on the Slider, hold the left button down on your mouse, and move the slider.

To the left decreases the resolution. To the right increases.
Once the resolution is set, go down to the bottom right, and left-click on Apply.
Now go to the bottom left, and click on OK.

Whenever the monitor is turned on, it displays for about 3 seconds and then goes black. what to do? It is only about 3 yrs old

One of three things is the most likely culprit.

1. Onboard video card is either disabled or bad.
2. Cable is bad
3. Monitor is bad.

You can check the last 2 relativly easily by hooking the monitor and cable up to another computer to see if they function. if they don't then first try swapping out the cable (i say this first because its cheaper) then swap out the monitor.

To see if the video card is bad try hooking up a different monitor to the system. If the new monitor is not displaying anything then you most likely will need to put a new video card in the machine.

I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LT 456s MONITOR AND AM TRYING TO HOOK UP TO A GATEWAY COMPUTOR WITH WINDOWS XP- WHEN I TURN IT ON THE GATEWAY WINDOW SHOWS UP AND THE THE WINDOWS XP AFTER THAT IT IS BLANK UNTIL A NO...

I think you are experiencing something that happens a lot when you change monitors, possibly 'downsizing'? Your graphics settings on your actual PC were set too high for the new, smaller flat-screen, so what you'll have to do is hook it back up to another monitor, even an older CRT-style one, and then do the following steps before hooking it back up to your new 14" LCD:
  1. boot into Windows as usual, but on an older, perhaps larger monitor
  2. right-click on any empty area on your desktop, then left-click on 'Properties' at the bottom of the little pull-down menu that pops up
  3. when 'Display Properties' window comes up, click on the very last tab to the right, labelled ''Settings'
  4. find the 'Screen Resolution' slider bar about two-thirds the way down that window, and adjust the slider control to a more standardized, universal setting, like '800x600', or even '1024x786'. Either of those should work with your new LCD flatscreen.
  5. make sure you click 'OK' on that window, then 'Shut Down' Windows properly (using the Start button, and all that)
  6. disconnect your old monitor, and hook your new one back up. It should work!
This happens a lot. I build HTPCs, so it's even worse the more 'options' you have, believe me.
Hope this helps!

Hi, I have a dell dimension e521 I hook up a old monitor to it and, it work but whei i hook up a new flat screen monitor it said (can not display video

Are you using the same VGA cable. Try to use the same VGA cable which is there is in Old Monitor

Though it can be issue with the resolution setting also of the Video

For that when you plug in your desktop to old monitor bring the Resolution to the minimum and then Connect it to your New Monitor

Samsung T220 monitor hook up to new macbookpro-how-pc driver only-help

Hello,

I think you're using the adapter in reverse. The adapter that changes from VGA to DVI but not the other way. You should plug the adapter into the DVI out on the macbook and then plug the VGA end of the cable into the monitor. If the monitor has a DVI input then you should be using a DVI to DVI cable to hook it up.

Once you have the cable plugged in you'll need to enable dual monitors or switch to external monitor on your macbook. Don't worry about the driver's cd, they are not necessary to make the monitor work on your mac (or on a PC for that matter).

There are two great instructions on how to do this, just google for "macbook switch to external monitor"

One here.

Second one here.

Monitor clinks off and on(black screen)

I would start up in safe mode, and disable that driver. It sounds like it is a bad driver on your new pc. Then turn off the pc, hook up your new monitor and start up fresh. Your pc should automatically find the best compatible driver for you. If this won't do, can you please list the driver you did use? Maybe we can search for another one that would be compatible with your model monitor.
