ITunes screen freezes on connecting the iPod. The ipod is not detected by iTunes even in disk mode. No menu of iTunes opens up when iPod is connected

1. Toggle the Hold switch. To do this, slide the switch to Hold (an orange bar appears) and then slide it back (orange bar is hidden).
2. Reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
   • If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
   • If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect the iPod to a power source by either plugging it into an Apple iPod USB Power Adapter or directly into a computer's USB port.
3. Let the iPod charge for at least 20 minutes. Note: If the iPod is connected to a computer, make sure the computer does not sleep, standby, or hibernate during the 20-minute charging period.
4. After the iPod has charged for at least 20 minutes and while it is still connected to the power source, toggle the Hold switch again as in step 1.
5. Try resetting the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
   • If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
   • If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, try putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring.
6. Try putting the iPod into disk mode.
• While in disk mode, connect the iPod to iTunes and try to restore.
• If the iPod is still not recognized by iTunes, the iPod should be serviced.

When you connect your iPod to your computer, does the iPod itself change to saying Connected or Do Not Disconnect? If not I would recommend putting the iPod into disc mode. After it is disc mode you will need to restore the iPod using iTunes. Below is a step by step on forcing an iPod into disc mode as well as restoring. put your ipod in disk mode by following these steps.
press and hold the Menu and Center buttons on the clickwheel. when you see the apple appear, switch your fingers to the center and play/pause buttons.
whena check mark appears plug it into you computer and it should detect and mount.
add music and have fun.

Actually I would try putting the ipod into disc mode and restoring it to see if it a software issue. I know computer/ipod stuff can be very frustrating sometimes too; so i posted a step by step on both the putting the ipod into disc mode as well as restoring it. Generally you will need to use itunes to add music to the player. I only know of super computer wiz's being able to sync using the media player. I also posted a how to on adding content to your ipod. I hope that this does resolve the issue your having. :)

To do this you will need to put the ipod into disc mode and restore it using the latest version of itunes.

You will want to attempt to force the iPod into disc mode then restore using iTunes. With the iPod in disc mode, iTunes should show the iPod. You will have to restore the iPod to resolve the issue of corruption though. Please let me know if this does not resolve your issue. :)

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Quick fix - press the menu & center button until the screen lights up or an apple logo appears. Then press the pause button until you can see the menu again.
