Is it okay to use a 14-17 volt power cord for a Simpletech External Hard Drive?

The SimpleDrive requires a 12V/2A tip positive power supply. A 14-17V supply might work, but you run the risk of damaging your drive.

SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB Power up problem

It could be that it's internal power supply burnt out,
in which case the drive itself could still be fine.

Try opening up the external case, and removing the drive.
Once you do, plug it in to your computer directly using its SATA cables, and see if that works.

Hope I helped,
Tom

My SimpleTech 320GB external hard drive is no longer recognized

trying using it on another system and and see if it happens like that. if it does, you may want to get a driver for the hard drive. it is likely the driver is corrupted. try it on another port also.
