ALright, the ps3 is stuck in the system update loop. So I have downloaded the newest update to a jumpdrive but I can't get to the menu to install it (because it is in a loop. I also hooked it up to my modem incase the problem was in the wireless modem. So today I disassembled the Ps3 and removed the little watch battery. waited awhile, then put it back in. I was hoping this would reset the D*mn thing. But it is still in the loop and stoping at 66% with the 8002f1f9 code. Help!!!!!ALright, the ps3 is stuck in the system update loop. try with with power switch press and hold the eject button and flip on the switch. another thing you could try is press and hold the power button for 10 sec should beep and then a few moments later another beep.

The 8002F997 code is a data corruption error . Before you go and replace the hard drive you will need to try and download the update from a different IP address. That means take your PS3 to a friends house and then download the update from the Sony website. If that does not stop the error from appearing then unfortuantly you will have to replace the hard drive with a new one. If your PS3 is under warranty then you should be able to get it fixed for free.
that is a update error. try going to the official ps3 site and download the latest update onto the stick then update the ps3 via storage media. it may take a few attempts but it should eventually work
PS3 is The amazing device by sony but it has some common problems like Disc read error, unreadable disc etc.... Good news is that these all problems can be repaired with the help of DIY Guides, one such guide available at PS3 Repair Blog
Hello!!
Ok, no matter how you try to install the firmware it will always write it to the hard drive first before install. Now if it gives you the 800 error while downloading it's your hard drive and it may need to be re-formatted or replaced. If you get an error during installation, then therewas a misplaced piece of code during the download and it needs to be downloaded again.
BTW, the power button default reset is ONLY for the Video output settings.
never mind. found it all by googling ps3 software updates. New to all this!
