Whirlpool ed5gvexvdoo side by side When using the ice dispenser (cubed or crushed) it will not dispense. I have pulled the ice tray and the motor for running the dispenser arm runs. I have emptied the tray and washed it and allowed it to dry. When the tray is empty the dispenser arm turns. When the tray has ice, the dispenser arm stops.

Ice crusher has stopped crushing - Ikea/Whirlpool

The solenoid has nothing to do with the crusher mechanism. Rather it delivers water to the ice tray when empty. Check that the ice door closes completely after ice is dispensed otherwise frost can build up in the crusher blades and prevent them from moving into position. Otherwise, check for a worn out part that connects to the blades and would prevent them from articulating.

Ice cube dispenser will only deliver crushed ice

Remove the ice bin, and in the back of the freezer you'll see a square opening with a white plastic piece inside. When you dispense cubed ice this piece lifts up, lifting the long metal rod that runs along the bottom of the ice bin. When that rod lifts it opens the ice flap at the front of bin, allowing cubes to be dispensed. If the flap is not open, the cubes will be ground against the cutters and you will get crushed ice.

Here's what you can do to make it so that you always get cubed ice. Take a wine cork and stand it on end. Using a good knife, I positioned the blade about 1/3 of the diameter from the edge and cut all the way through the length of the cork. Then remove the ice tray.

Now put your finger in the sqaure opening and lift up the white pastic piece. Slide the modified cork under the flap so that it is jammed into the raised position. (This is the position it should be in when you are asking for cubed ice.) Now slide the ice tray back in while using your left hand to push the plastic ice flap at the front of the tray to the left side (again, the position it should be in for delivering cubed ice). Peer under the tray while you're slowly sliding it back in so that you can see if the metal rod connected to that ice flap successfully slides into the square opening at the back. If it can't slide in above the cork-raised plastic piece, you may need to pull the cork back out and trim a little more off it.

This worked for me... I can't get crushed ice anymore, but I've only needed crushed ice once in the 16 months I've lived here so that's not an issue for me.

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes I have the same problem... The same switch works fine for the crushed ice and water setting but will not dispense cubed ice. It only gives crushed.

hi.
I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck.

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

Ice dispenser in door will not dispense ice

this could be the:
door switch (usually 2 switches, 1 for the light and 1 for the dispenser) auger motor itself the dispenser switch or the plug near the hinge that connects the door the the refrigerator has a bad connection. this connection is hidden under a plastic hinge cap usually.

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

You may not need to replace the solenoid.  If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice.  Test it manually with your hand, it should be free  to move up and down.  If not, then it is frozen with ice.  Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out.  You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again.  Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

Pull out your ice bin. In the back of the bin you will see a rod protruding from one side. That rod goes into an opening in the rear of the freezer. There is a solenoid behind that opening that raises and lowers the arm on the ice bin giving you crushed or cubed ice. Check to see if that solenoid is froze up or if your rod got stuck under it. If all check ok then replace that solenoid.

Check and make sure your switch is okay. Some have a switch that controls whether you want crushed or cubes. If it is defective replace it.
