I think, based on my own experiences, Restaurant Pro Express just plain sucks, this issue happens to me all the time, but I had to pay tech support regardless. Every time my router fails, I have to reauthorize the software, which means I waste 1-2 hours on hold with their so called tech support.
Do not buy this software. Restaurant Pro Express is a mistake.
I have found from past experience, the sales reps don't always know how to reactivate your license key properly. Do not buy more tech support. Just ask for a new key. You will need to give them the security code that appears on the registration window. I'm not sure what causes this. I have about 15 RPE and CRE systems that I maintain and only one has this problem, but it occurs randomly about every 6-9 months. A new key and your back in business. I have to disagree with part of
phredphlint's solution.
The attrib.pca file change might work, but having a valid license does not give you any upgrade rights after your initial 3 months of free support. You have to purchase more tech support for each PC in order to upgrade. And if you have more than one workstation, version 12 tries to use direct connect instead of Enterprise mode, unless they have fixed this bug. What this means is that if your server goes down or loses connection to your workstations, the workstation become useless. They can no longer talk to the database. There is a work around for this, but why bother if you have ver 11.5 that does support Enterprise mode.
Wine Bar is right that their tech support sucks. Use me instead. I'm cheaper and American. [email protected]

There's a little trick to this that may help, but it's a LITTLE technical.
first, definitely upgrade to the latest 12.0 version. if you have a valid code, you get the upgrade free. then, in the c:\program files\cre.net\ folder there's a file called attrib.pca. change the date in the <expiration> tab to something far in the future and you should be OK. just a thought!
