Over the past 2 days, the picture on my Sharp was showing break up that looked like test pattern bars then it would resolve. Last night the picture went black but the sound is still fine. Remote changes channels as the audio changes each time the remote is pressed, just nothing but black picture.
Have surge protector, have antenna, have checked all connections for fit. Is it a video card failure?
Our Sharp is at least 3 years old, and without problems until today. Watching the telly, perfect picture, and then all of the sudden the is a wide black [with thin stripes] running on the horzontial. Have tried turning the set off and waitng for 15 minutes, without results. Is this the end? Please help.

LCD TV's ought to be very reliable but they are still having quite a
lot of troubles like this. The power supllies tend to go out,
however because the sound and tuner are still working here, the main
supply is ok. Could be the back light has failed or the part of
the power supply feeding the backlight.
The other common problem we see is bad solder joints due to the reduced
performance of the new lead-free solders the makers have gone to.
LCD's are pretty easy to take apart and just spend some time
resoldering everything that looks suspicious. Especially the
larger components.
Hope Ya Fix It.
Sound like the main board may have died, but this set has some firmware upgrades that can be done as well, there also may be a problem with the LCD control board. At any rate this problem is beyond the backyard tv tech, my advise is to take it to a autherized Sharp repair shop, by doing that the shop can order these part through Sharps board exchange program and save you some money on the parts

The two brands should be compatible, and plugging the sound bar in should not affect the picture...either the tv chose that particular moment to go bad, or you plugged the soundbar into the wrong place...look for "audio out" connectors on the tv (should be RCA connectors)...
yes, remove the back of the tv,on the power board you will see the problem.replace those capacitors on the power board.this will allow the set to work.the black bars may still be there.this is an indication of a bad panel.
Does bulb come on? If not, I would take it back since only 2 days old. If it does, try unplugging for a few minutes and plugging back in to see if that solves problem. If not, you can check test patterns by getting into service mode to see if display is working. Not sure what code to get into service mode on your tv is, but I have a different model Samsung and I enter service mode by pressing "mute", "1", "8", "2", then "power" on the remote. If your samsung has same code, it will start up in service mode. Once in service mode, go to DDP1011, then Test Pattern. Go through the different patterns by pressing the right arrow key on remote. If they don't show up, you probably have bad DMD board. If they do show up, go back to main menu and select DNle then Test Pattern. If pattern does not show up, you have an analog board problem. If it does show up, go back to main menu and there should be an option in the menu tree to do a user reset, which will change everything to factory defaults and restart tv. Hope this helps. If not I would be taking it back since only 2 days old.
hello, this sounds more like a cable or satelite problem. hame you tried reseting your cable or sat box? usually when you reset the box it will download the guide again...
