My Toshiba 32AF41 TV was flashing white occasionally while watching movies, and now it won't turn on. When I hit the power button, it sounds like it's turning on, but the indicator light just blinks red and the screen doesn't light. What's the problem and how expensive is it likely to be?

Yes, it's quite possible that you indeed may have sufferd from a Power Spike, induced by lightning during the storm, esspecially if plugged in during said storm. I have had quite a few customers ova the years with this exact problem. I always advise my clients to unplug ALL devices during a storm, and for ones that simply cannot be unplugged then some sort of Spike/Surge Protection device MUST be used. As a matter of interest, I have written many a report to insurance companies to support a claim for a replacement.

just fixed one with that problem it was the vertical output ic Q301
that was shorted. try wicking it out. it is a LA7833S.

Try to have the TV unplugged over night. If that does not solve it you may have to have the TV power supply circuit inspected for leaking capacitors, loose solders or may be a bad IC.

try checking first your tact switch or your power button, then next look for open fuses or low ohm resistor on secondary part of your power supply then check your horizontal and vertical outputs for shortage and open circuits check also your horizontal drive stage.
