If at full volume with the balance cutting out the right channel you can hear some music on the left (very weak), then the pre-amp is working and it's the power amp that's gone. Vice-versa if you can't anything, but say hum.
If it is the power amp check out the devices on the heat sink.
Check too for broken or burnt parts too!

Hi I just got a Technics SU V2 amp and can't get sound from the speakers. What size speakers would suit this amp? What is the correct method to connect the speaker leads to the back of this amp,...

Being a 500W amplifier, you need to connect speakers with 300W each. The correct method to connect speakers is red terminal of speaker should be connected to red terminal of amplifier & black to black. The left side to left side speaker & right to right speaker. There may be main & remote terminals. Main speakers are the speakers at local place of the amplifier & remote for remotely placed speakers. I do have Technics SU-V85A which is somewhat similar. Enjoy! A nice piece to listen.

I have a technics SU-v500m2 amplifier connected via the aux input to my pc, i wish to link another amp to the same input, is this possible, and if so how?

Let's establish which is the IN and which is the OUT here. The PC is a Line Level source so its OUTPUT would feed one of the amp's Line Level INPUTs.

What's the second amp going to do in your scenario? Something other than the normal stereo channels; something multichannel (if your PC supports it); or just more speakers supported for the PC to feed?

An RCA Y-connector pair would share the stereo output of the PC with multiple Line Level destinations.

If a second amp with its own volume control is intended to share the same two channels with the SU-V500 it could also be slaved off the back of the SU-V500 wih an RCA patch pair exiting the Tape 1 or 2 REC(OUT) jacks. The second amp would receive full-volume audio from whatever source the SU-V500 is playing. Just don't activate the selected Tape monitor on the SU-V500 or you will cut off the source to both amps.

I have a Technics SU-V460 integrated amplifier, and the left channel (speaker) keeps "dropping" out . I have to turn the volume right up in order for it to "kick" back in. Would this be...

There are three possible problems with your system. The first, and cheapest to fix, is that the wire connecting the left channel is faulty. To test this, unplug the wire from the back of the amp and put a new one in, then play some music BEFORE putting everything back into it's respective place. If the speaker doesn't cut out anymore, problem solved! Speaker wire is very cheap too. If the problem persists, try connecting one of your other speakers that you know works to the input. If that speaker cuts out as well, then the amplifier is the faulty component. That will cost some money to repair (between $50-$150 depending on where you go, excluding the price of a new amplifier). If the speaker you know is not faulty works when plugged into the left channel, then the only other option is that the original left channel speaker is faulty. This could cost between $25-$100 to get repaired, excluding the cost of a new speaker. It will not be as costly as a new amp, but will definitely cost more than a new speaker cable.

28 yr old Technics SU Z45 amp. Loses/lost right hand channel sound. Speakers fine so must be amp. Dunno if it is the wires connection at the back or something gone inside. Can it be repaired? Thanks. ...

If you have lost the channel on all functions IE:tape, radio, aux etc. Then there's nothing wrong with the back connections. The good thing about stereo amps is that it uses the same parts for one channel as it does for the other. Which in your case means that the left channel can be used for a guide to the right. The first thing to do is look around the amp. Find the two channels parts and compare them, first by looking at them. If you find one burnt and the other good, you have solved it.
As long as you keep away from the power supply parts, you can touch them with an insulated screwdriver. A buzz means it's working and if you work backwards from the speaker section, poking parts with the screwdriver you should be able to find the cause of the problem. Remember use the left channel as a guide to what happens in the right.

You can try replacing the resistors. They are available using part number: ERDS1FJ100 from tritronicsinc.com for $1.10 each. Typically though, the reason for the silence is a defective output amp-pac. This too can be purchased from tritronicsinc.com using part number: RSN3305-P for $65.73. This is the amp for the front speakers. The rear and center speaker5s use part number: SVI3205B which is listed as no longer available.

Hope this helps,
