In most cases when the HP02 cartridge is not recognized, or has poor connectivity, you will normally receive an "Unrecognized Cartridge" or "Cartridge Problem" error message with a big RED X; in most cases (like 99.3%) the smart chip needs to be replaced with a new one - please note the chip life has 25 month expiration window from the time the HP02 (or 363) cartridge is initially installed into the printer. Does printing black text only on a Brother Inkjet All-in-One (MFC-J625DW) use the color cartridges?

Your right. Simple answer. Take the coloured cartraiges out (you may need to set your printer to mono crome though. not sure.? Save a bit more money and recycle your cartrages you get paid for them. then you can buy refill cartrages and save even more. Some say do not use them they cause problems, but i have from day one and still have no problems 29 years later!!! and i am a high user on a A1 PRINTER!!! (draughtsman if your wondering)

Color ink cartridge says empty i just filled it

When you put in a "new" cartrage the printer sens an electrical charge to the cartrage to set it up properly. So I would treat this as a new cartrage, rather than a refilled one. Go to the printer menu and re install the ink cartrage in question, it should recognise it and start the function as a new one, good luck

HP 930C will not print in color

Have you made sure that the plastic strip covering the cartridge is removed? Also, are both of the cartridges installed? Mine won't print if both aren't installed. Next, you might want to check that (in printer settings) your printer isn't configured to print pure black/greyscale. Otherwise, check the HP Site, they have walkthrough guides on how to print tests directly from your printer. Hope this helps. BurntLime

"Expired color cartridge" message blocks black printing - nothing works

Hello merelU. I'm afraid you may have to replace the empty color cartridge as there may be problems with the printer while an expired cartridge is installed on the printer (even though some of the cartridges are still under warranty) and also, HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of expired ink cartridges.

all the best.
thx

Then your point is i should buy a new set of color cartrages like the 3 colors before the printing should take place then how can i set my brothers printer mfc-240c into black cartrages only no need to buy...

First - read the manual as regards printing. I notice that you can print in Black and White but I cannot find anything to say that you only need the Black ink to do this (therefore I think that I am right in saying that you need the colour cartridges).

Question - Has it worked with only the black ink before now?

As a final solution - Contact Brother direct and check out their FAQ's and/or send them an email asking if you can run the printer with Black ink only installed (I suspect the answer will be no).

If the answer to the above questions comes back as "Yes you can use Black only" (they may tell you how to set this up in which case ignore my next comments), then please supply some more information as regards what happened immediately before it stopped printing. This will help to drill down to the problem.
