Can't scan over network

Hi, can somebody please explain to me me why, on a hardwired network with 5+ PC's, I can print from a Canon MF6550 from any PC on the network but I can only scan from one of the PC's? How do I set it up so that I can scan from ALL computers on the network?

Thanks!

Hello, Anmontey -

All the PCs in the network should have the scanner driver installed, for one thing.

Best wishes.

SOURCE: Will not print

The Simple Network Configuration capabilities of Mac OS® X can only find devices in the local network segment. If your Macintosh® and devices are not in the same network segment or are connected via a router, you cannot use the Simple Network Configuration capabilities of Mac OS® X.

In these cases, I recommend you use IP printing.

SOURCE: my canon ImageClass MF6550 only make blank copies

Here is an easier solution...nothing to break or bend...When you remove the toner out, you will see the metal grill that is above the toner. Point your flashlight to to the right hand side of the metal grill, you will see a black plastic level within the metal grill. At this point use a small/medium screwdriver and lightly poke upper on the black plaster level, you should hear something drop. That is it, place back the toner and you should be able to print again.

Can we use MF6550 for wireless network?

If you use a wireless USB print server like this . Keep in mind that you may not get all functions such as scanning to work but it will allow for printing for sure. If the scanning works consider it a bonus.

How do you get into service mode on canon MF6560 (image class) ? Thanks RD

Press “Additional Functions”, “2", “8", “Additional Functions” in succesion.
Display will show “#SSSW”.
Press “+” or “-“ key repeatedly to go through the following menu list:
#SSW, #MENU, #NUMERIC, #SPECIAL, #NCU, #FAX, #SCAN, #PRINT, #NETWORK, #CODEC, #SYSTEM, #ACC, #COUNTER, #REPORT, #DOWNLOAD, #CLEAR, #ROM, #TEST MODE
Don't make adjustments in these modes unless you know what you are doing; could mess things up. Counter mode is especially helpful though for observing the performance (totals, mode, feed, and jam counts).

I am using the canon image class mf6500 and i can't scan. where do you get the driver for it?

Go to:

Canon MF6500 Series Support

If the Drivers & Downloads tab is not selected, click on it.

Although it shows a MF6550 at the top, the software and manuals are for the 6500 series of printers. There are guides for printing and scanning further down the list you can download too.

You do not say what operating system you have, but there are only drivers for Vista and Mac OS.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Installation assistant cannot detect print server

Results of attempting to connect the Netgear Wireless Print Server WGPS606 and the Canon MF6550 multifunction laser printer. I was on the phone for several hours last evening (March 9, until about midnight EDT) with a very competent support agent from Netgear (actually in the Philippines). The Netgear setup Wizard software would not connect the Print Server to my Verizon FiOS wireless G router automatically, so the Netgear support agent walked me through it manually. The Print Server connected that way, for sure. Then we manually attempted to connect the Print Server to my Canon MF6550 and subsequently, my HP 932C Deskjet. Neither printer is on the WGPS606 compatible list, nor is either on the known incompatible list. Now we know - both printers are INCOMPATIBLE with the Netgear WGPS606. I bought both the Netgear Print Server and the Canon MF6550 at Staples on Sat., March 8, 2008, based upon the assurance from Staples staff that it would all work. The question now is whether ANY brand of wireless Print Server will work with the Canon MF6550, or do I have to return this printer and get either a Canon with built in networking (ethernet or wireless) or switch to the Brother equivalent (MFC 8870DW). If I get a (multi-function) printer with built-in Ethernet networking, does the Ethernet capability bypass the USB incompatibility problem, or will the problem remain?
