HP 4315 "Scanner Bulb Failure"

I have an HP 4315 All-in-One that has been a great little printer for me. A few months ago I got a "scanner bulb failure" error on startup but I was able to get past it after a restart. I'm now getting the error each time I start the printer and it appears to be here to stay. Is this something I can fix myself? Is there a scanner bulb that can be replaced? The printer was inexpensive but the quality of the scans is very good and it's lightweight--all reasons for me to want to keep it going. I use the printer while traveling locally and haven't been able to find one better.

Ok try this while the printer is on pull out the power cable leave it for about 30 seconds and then plug back in also would recommend plugging directly into power socket if that does not work then your bulb is faulty it could be much cheaper buying a new one but if you want a repair you can contact HP check www.hp.com for contact number in your country and they will be able to direct you to one of there repair centre's

They do not sell the scanner bulbs individually, you will probably have to replace the entire scanning assembly, which you can buy, or take to a local repair shop. They should be able to order the scanning assembly for you.

Scanner failieur and paper jam

This is a very common problem, and I have only found 1 really popular fix for this problem.

You must get access to the scanner bulb under the glass before the following steps can be taken.

There should be a very reflective mirror like strip underneath the bulb. This mirror like strip fogs up and gets dirty use after use. Take a cotton swab with a little alcohol and carefully wipe the mirror like strip clean.

This should fix the scanner failure problem.

If the problems persist, I would recommend getting a new printer.

We cannot get the scan to operate on the hp officejet 4315 all in one printer

When you lift lid to scanner pad, does bulb light up? It should also move slightly as if to prepare for a scan. If these things do not occur, something is definitely wrong with the scanner itself and will require a technician to service.

If bulb does light and carriage moves, then you should try using the buttons on printer control panel and try to use software on computer to try a scan.

If the control panel button works, then it's a software issue. You can try different software like HP Directory or any photo software with input from scanner feature.
If software works, but control panel doesn't, you'll need a technician to fix the panel.
If neither work, we are back to a problem with the physical scanner. That requires a technician to look at it.

The scanner bulb goes back and forth about an inch in hp 3330 prt

The scanner blub mirror needs to be cleaned and possibly the underneath side of the scanner glass. The scanner is not finding the marks to make it function correctly.

Machine won't print

Scanner failure means that the scanner bulb is no longer working. There are a few things that can sometimes bring it back but it may be a permanent issue.
1) Make sure printer is directly into the wall and not a surge protector or power strip
2) Remove cartridges from printer
3) Unplug power from back of printer and wait 30 seconds
4) While printer is unplugged press the # and 6 keys and plug power cord in. Keep holding # and 6 until the printer has either powered off or it says semi-full reset
5) Go through initialization process - if it works great the issue with firmware is fixed. If not then the scanner bulb isn't functioning and you are looking at replacing the unit.

Scanner and coiper won't work printer does work

Hi Bbear,

The problem here is with the scanner bulb, the scanner bulb is bad.
I mean to say that your scanner bulb lit for a while and goes off.

This confirms that the scanner bulb is currupted.

I have a web link, which is given below with some of the troubleshooting steps to perform.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpu01105&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=390315

Click on the web link given above and perform the steps.
If this fixes the issue, that would be great else you need to replace or get a new or refurbished printer.

Scan head/carriage not parking in one spot -- keeps moving.

The scanner is having trouble getting its "white reference" usually due to dusty mirrors, but can also be the bulb losing brightness. These are not a easy machine to pull apart if your not used to it.

Good colour laser MFP, depends on volume of prints and remember colour dont come cheap, but dont use refill cartridges, Kyocera and Oki both have good Models

Errors

Hi Jean, The issue can occure only when the HP printer is not gettting enough power supply or the scanner bulb is not getting heated up properly.. You can isolate the issue by directly connecting the printer to wall jack and powerup the printer and try to make a copy so that we can check the copy function as the copy, scannig and FAX use the same scanner bulb to performe all functions.. If the copy does'nt work try to lift the scanner lid and check if the scanner bulb is lit and the scanner machinasium is moving fine or not .. lift the lid and press scan button to check the functionality. If the printer is connected to a surge protector or power strip this will some time fail to provide the required power supply to the printer so connect it to wall outlet and check with the issue.. There is also a FIRMWARE UPDATE RELEASED BY HP to fix the some of the scanner failure and receving faxes issue with HP 6110 All-in-one Here is the weblink to download and install the firmware update just click on the link to open the download page and then click on download and select save to save the patch to computer and run it to install the update make sure that the printer is connected and turn on while installing the patch The link to download: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-14700-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=79477&os=228&lang=en Hope this will fix the issue.. If the issue is with the scanner failure message try the instruction in the below weblink: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00787271&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=79477&dlc=en&lang=en Wish you success Jean Regards, Barret
