I have a Compaq Presario V2000 Laptop and when I try to turn it on, the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock blink constantly but the screen stays blank. What is the problem?

Just remove the ram and clean it and fix it again or you can try with connecting other monitor and make sure the laptop is booting properly only problem with screen.

You may try this fix. No guaranties though. Remove the battery and unplug power cable. Then hold down the "power" button for about 10 seconds. After that plug it back in and try turning it on. Again, this may NOT work but it has for others.

Open the Notebook from the back side and locate the RAM. Now remove the RAM and place it again and check, you can even try inserting the RAM in different slot if any used slot is available.
Take out your battery and the power button for about 60secs.
Start the laptop using the Adapter [without the battery]
Lighten up your laptop...remove any external device attached [printer,scanner,pen drives etc.].
It could also be a RAM problem,try changing the RAM if you have two start with one and exchange them.
After that when the system starts you can do the system restore START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--SYSTEM RESTORE to restore it back to an earlier date when laptop was ok.THEN LATER ON PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN.
Try restarting after an hour gap.
If this doesn't solve your problem call the company people.Their might be a Video Card problem or any other internal hardware problem.
Press F2 or Del key to get into Bois settings. Reset it to defaults by pressing F7 or look for the option on top of the window. F10 save & exit. See if it works.. otherwise try windows repair/reinstall
Compaq and Hp are having issues with several models, My wife just got hers repaired free out of warranty. Go to copaqs website, look up your model and see if it is one they are offering free one time repairs on. Wife's computer was doing same thing, they replaced the motherboard. Took about 2 weeks round trip . Good luck
Try uninstalling the RAM memory for a minute or two and start the machine with no memory, then reinstall the memory and start again, it should boot right up.
