This could be due to a phone setting.
You probably have the phone or the blue tooth in the "mute mode"
check you instruction manual or the phone settings to see if you have it voice muted for privacy.

The Mic at your end is bad or the ear piece at their end is bad. test the two sides with a certified Functional head set and test the two ends.

the fault is simply a earpiece problem. The earpiece of your phone needs to be replaced or cleaned for it to work again.

You also have an option of use an handfree fro your phone.
