This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.
I guess I assumed you had a newer oven. Is your broiler in the drawer below the oven? If so, the oven and broiler share the same burner and the thermostat may be the problem. Newer stoves have a separate burner for each and the broiler is in the oven space with pan storage in the drawer below. That type has a igniter for each burner and it would do what you describe.
OK, I would feel confident that the thermostat is the culprit in this mystery, I found one at http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail... it costs around $90. It looks like there are 2 possible parts, probably because this model is digital or analog, call the 800 number to be sure to get the right one. Best of luck!

Usually answered in minutes!
in broil the igniter works fine and quickly, it shuts off when turned to bake
so i think its the thermostat, guess it has a switch for broil and temp bulb for bake and thinks the oven is too hot?
have no wire diagram
yes
it has one burner, broil under and oven over
one control knob for oven
so do you feel i will not waste $$$ on a new turmostat?
where can i get one?
