Fire in the oven in self cleaning mode

I put my oven into self cleaning mode but apparently had grease in the bottom of the oven. An alarm and fire code flashed. the fire went out but the oven is still locked. will the oven unlock when it reaches a certain temperature or is there something I need to do to get the door open?

I would let the oven cool down then unplug the range from the power for at least 10 minutes. Then plug the range back in and see if the error goes away and the oven unlocks. Hopefully this re-sets the system. If the error does not go away then there might be a fusable link in the broiler/burner compartment that has melted due to the fire as a safety feature. If that is the case then a new fusable link might need to be installed to get the range working again. The reason for this is because there might have been electrical wiring or other components that were damaged from the fire.

Self cleaning oven

If the door is sealed properly, there will not be enough oxygen to have combustion. If a fire develops, there may be a problem with the door seal. The self clean mode will raise the temperature to around 1000 degrees, causing the soil to turn into an ash.

Self-Clean gets too hot on JTP56 double-oven

Your husband is correct, kind of. You should not try self clean again until you get the oven repaired. You have a temp sensor going out. I doubt that the oven actually got too hot, most likely the resistor in the sensor is failing as it heats up and giving a false temp reading.Since the lower oven was operating at the time, it is probably the sensor in the lower oven. Don't use it for baking until you get it repaired. It will go out completely and shut down both ovens. You should be able to get a new sensor for around $30 and they are not hard to replace.

The oven won't set your house on fire during clean mode if the cabinets were built with the correct air space and dimensions, but they do get very hot, about 800 degrees F. Most ovens give no trouble during the clean cycle, but if there is any weak components in the electronics system it will show up then. It will give you less trouble over time if you don't use the self clean mode and just manually clean it.
