While I was playing today, I tried plugging in my charger for my laptop in the same power strip where my 360's power cord was plugged in.
I kind of struggled plugging in my laptop charger and then all of a sudden my 360 went out and it gave out a huge beep that didn't end until i unplugged the 360's power supply. Before I unplugged it, I think there was one red light flashing in the top left quadrant. I'm not totally sure.
Then, I tried turning it on again to no avail. I figured I got a red light or the RROD, but isn't the 360 supposed to turn on even though you get any red lights? So I figured it was the power brick. I tried plugging it into a wall outlet and still doesn't turn on.
Maybe I have to replace the power brick? If so, what do I have to buy? Or did my 360 overheat somehow?
If I fried my Xbox, should it be giving out a smell? Also when I feel my Xbox, I don't feel any heat. There is no smell coming from it at all and there is a smell coming from the area of the power strip I used to plug in my 360's power cord.If I fried my Xbox, should it be giving out a smell? Sounds like you fried your Xbox. You are right though, the lights should at least come on. You can try the new power brick and if that doesn't work then your xbox may have blown something, in which case your best and safest bet is to replace it. Sorry.

It sound like you have whats called a short on the DC socket (which is where the power plugs in) unfortunately the only way to repair this is to strip the laptop down, remove the motherboard and repair/replace the Socket. It is unlikely but possible that the charger is at fault.
You say the battery is charging? Have you tried another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs? Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged in? Any damage? Drop? Do you leave the Laptop plugged in while not in use?
Unplug, remove the battery, plug in, try to turn on. If that fails, try another AC/DC cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord? Damage due to Power surges? Do you leave it plugged in while not in use a lot?
Remove the battery and plug in the Cord/charger, will it boot? If no, try another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs. Replace battery if necessary.
hi, if you getting voltage to the laptop it the multi meter is around 19v ( or what ever voltage is on the charger) is then your charger is more then likely fine other then trying a second charger , there is a simple trick you can try to resolve this issue with the following procedure
- remove the battery from the laptop
- remove all cords including power from the laptop
- press and hold the power button for 60 seconds ( at least 60 secs)
- plug the laptop into the ac adaptor only ( no battery) and try and turn it on
- if this works then you can turn it off and put the battery back in the unit
if it doesn't work then there is either a problem with the motherboard ( faulty Laptop) or the charger is faulty but you can only be 100% sure by using a second ac adapter but again if its got the right voltage its likely fine
Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Sony Vaio laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop.
This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset.
Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord
and turn your laptop on.
If that does't work try removing ram and reinstall. Sometime this works with these laptops.
Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.
If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.
i think that is a power problem lights blinking (eletricity going out) can cause it. try unplugging power cords and plugging them back in if that doesn't work plug them into wall
i have to personally dissagree with 'wildbear' :-) well not actually dissagree but i think the problem will be at lot less technical than all the writing he has done. a simpler check.......does the 360 'switch on' ?? i assume with a red light on the power brick it dosnt ?? the problem is more likely a faulty pin (terminal) inside one of the USB slots you have been using for either a controller charger or wired controller (or a usb memory stick to play music thru ur xbox??)......plugging chargers/wired controllers in & out of either the 2 front slots (behind the flap) or the 1 at the back can sumtimes bend one of the terminals causing it to touch the outer casing of the usb slot ?? if it does this it shorts the board of the 360 which in turn stops u powering up the 360 all together :-( one of the signs of this is a 'RED' light on the power brick & the 360 not powering up at all !! but sumtimes the power brick light will stay orange or even green.....even with this fault ! it dosnt always turn red ! One way to rectify it is (un-plug the powere brick from the mains first) & unplug ALL USB CONNECTIONS TO THE 360 !! (controller chargers ect) & try powering up the 360 !! (after plugging it back in) if this fails ur gonna need a torch & a little screw driver (or tweezers) un-plug everything from the 360 & look inside ALL usb slots you have used ! check to see if any of the prongs have bent accidently whilst plugging in & out chargers ect ..... if they have straighten them so they are not touching any of the sides of the usb slot.... after doing this ...plug back in and 'hopefully' Whoooop Whooooop :-)
hope this helps ?? failing this it maybe as wildbear suggests & its a problem with the power brick altho i very much doubt it ?? they normally way out live an xbox ! remember thumbs up if this helps :-)
