Compressor/Condensor fan need to be turned by hand to get it started. Do I need a new fan motor or could this be a larger issue.

If the fan does indeed run ok without any bearing noise and the blade spins freely when you push it and then runs ok your motor start capacitor is bad on the motor. This is usually a small metal oval shaped can with two wire leads attached to it to help kick the motor armature into spinning when your ac unit first turns on.

The capacitor is about 4 to 6 uf (microfarads) and at is available at a local electrical supply house and is under $10 and if your handy with small tools this could be replaced by yourself if you are willing. BE SURE TO PULL the OUTSIDE POWER DISCONNET before taking any covers off. 240 volts ac for the compressor motor and fan motor plus even the 110 volt control power will kill you before you can blink! The control relay from the thermostat in your home is 24 volts ac. Get a friend with a voltmeter to verify the circuits are truly dead before you attempt repairs. Good luck and use a voltmeter to make sure the power to the ac unit is off! Regards, Dennis

Crosley CAE12ESR air conditioner turn on but not blowing air. Only making buzzing sound. Cool and fan not working.

You can try this. Remove the cover, spin the fan by hand and see if the motor runs well after this, if so, the capacitor or motor condensor is bad or has defective wiring. Replacing it should take care of the problem. Some capacitors are split capacitors, have two values and serve both a fan motor and the compressor. In this case, the unit can be rewired for individual capacitors or the split one replaced.

I have a Ruud condenser on which I just replaced the capacitor and contactor. When I power up, the fan motor spins very slowly and a buzzing occurs about every 15 seconds. The buzzing sounds like it's...

Hello Zing77,

I understand that you are having a problem with your Rudd condensor. The fan is turning slowly and the compressor is making a buzzing noise which has a Diversitech hard start conected to the capcitor.

You have already replaced the run capcitory on the unit and have attached the compressor wire to therm and c and the fan to therm and fan. The hard start kit shoudl be attached to the therm and c with your compressor wires attached to the same place. The hard start kit is to give the compressor the extra push (electrical charge) to start.

You need to check your connections and make sure that you purchased the proper run capcitor. If you have purchased the proper compacitor and the connections are right then you have a bad fan and the compressor as gone out on the unit.

Aircon split unit in summer start up ,condensor fan and compressor are running ,after +- 3minutes condensor fan stops and compressor keep on running. What can cause this problem?

Check all your wires and connections of your condensor fan. If there are damaged or overheated wires or connections, correct them. Make sure connections are tight.
Check for "play" in the motor shaft. Hold the tip of the shaft and try moving it side-to-side in all directions. If there is any "play", the bearings are bad and the motor needs to be replaced. Up-and-down play is normal......do not confuse that with side-to-side play.
When the motor first locks up, while running, try turning by hand (BE CAREFUL). If the motor is tight, the bearings are bad. You might be able to buy a little time by oiling the bearings, but once they lock up, they generally will remain troublesome and need replaced.
Also make sure the condensor coil is clean.....wash it off with a hose.
I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you as a solid jumping off point moving foward. :-)

Motor that was in it during summer I could run a/c but I had to spin fan by hand and then it got to where it would run for a couple hours and then would not spin at all,I replaced motor and capcitor and...

I think you have the motor wired wrong. If you have two brown wires they are the only wires that go on the capacitor. Black wire will be used for cool and red for heating and the white wire goes to neutral.

Hi, I am having a problem with my home a/c. Ive been having to reset the high press. control reset button on the side of my outside condensor unit lately. Ive noticed that the fan is having difficulty...

If you spin the motor and it starts running, the capcitor is bad. Replace it and all should be well. High pressure is tripping as the fan motor is not starting when the unit comes on.

Have a Ruud Achiever Model number UAKA-037JAZ that won't run since yesterday. When the air kicks on it simply makes a buzzing noise and the fan doesn't spin. Can anyone help?

try spinning by hand when the unit make the buzzing sound. to see if the capacitor is bad. If the fan runs replace the cap. If not motor probably is bad. See if it spins freely. this is a good starting place. need to check if the buzzing is the contactor and there is no power to the condensor. The contactor will buzz even though the main breaker is off or tripped

Condensor fan failure! will run if you spin by hand. rpne 24 2ton heat pump do they have a bad run of fans or cap

It could be the capacitor (most of the times) or the fan motor itself Put a new caoacitor and see if it runs without your help if doesn't replace the motor with the same hp and rpm and if the new one is rebersible make sure is blowing out.

The inside is fine the outside fan does not spin yet spins freely with the screwdriver trick

Most likely the condensor fan has gone bad. But it can be bad wiring, this fan should run any time the compressor is on. Pull your electricl cut off. (Turn off the electricity) open the control panel look for the area above where the hard pipes come into the mach. look for any burt / loose wiring. If the compressor comes on most os the time the fan motor is bad. When / if you replace the motor do get a new cap to go with it change them together.

General Electric Refrigerator

Check the connection of the electrical harness to the fan motor. If it is fully connected and the motor still does not run replace the fan motor. The fan MUST operate at the same time as the compressor to properly cool the system. Spin the fan blade by hand with he power off. If it turns with any resistance the bearings are dry and in most cases the motor is replaced.
