Finalization problem2 LG HDD/DVD Recorder RH266 I can record from HD to to DVD but finalization menu doesn't appear. It did appear once but with finalization blanked out and has never been seen since..

You can record and finalize DVD+Rs one time. After you fill a DVD+R or

complete all the recordings you want on a single DVD+R, finalize it.

Otherwise, the DVD+R will play only on this Recorder.To play the Disc on

other DVD Players, you must finalize it first.

Once you finalize a DVD+R, you cannot record on it anymore or make

editing changes.Therefore, make sure the Disc is as you want it before you

finalize it.

Press SYSTEM MENU. Press

; to select in the top left

corner of the menu bar at the top of the TV screen.

9 repeatedly to select in the second screen,

then press

9 repeatedly to select Finalize disc. Finalize disc

appears in the menu only when an unfinalized DVD+R is in the

Recorder.

Press OK.

"Finalizing" will appear in the menu.The process may

take a few minutes.

When finalization is complete, the Index

picture screen will reappear.

You cannot unfinalize a DVD+R, and you cannot record or

edit the DVD+R after you finalize it.

A DVD+R will play on other DVD Players only after the
Disc is finalized.

Try the manufactures site for this if not available , I have found most manuels available on Bit torrent hope this helps ..Regards Vortash

Hi .. It sounds like the problem you have is incompatabilty I assume that you haven tried Phono connections instead of scart , as this sometimes cures this problem .. or when purcahsing a scart look for the Miirrored type this means that the inputs and outputs are reversed this also sometimes cures the problem as some scarts put output to output and input to input ect when actually it should be output from tv to input dvd and so on ie wrong scart and there are a few of the cheaper type that have this problem .. if you have no luck using the phono let me know .. 1. The message can appear if the disc has already been finalised.

2. The disc may be faulty.

3. Try copying again from HDD to another disc. Performing a copy and finalise together by using 'DVD Video Creation' from the Edit menu can be more successful than doing each step separately.

4. When you transferred from your video camera, did you use firewire? If so, did you record at the maximum (default) bitrate of 14+ ? If so, you must copy (rate conversion) to the DVD at a maximum bitrate of 9.2, which is the maximum for the DVD playback standard.

I turned off the Colby recorder then turned it back on and inserted the DVD and chose the edit button on the remote controller. The correct menu with the close and finalize choice became available.

If the DVD is copy right protected then it won't record. By this I mean, you can't simply rent a DVD at Blockbuster and transfer it to the Hard Drive (use a computer to do this instead). Try using a DVD that is not protected, like a home video or a cd with MP3s

No direct record from TV to DVD on this model, yes it is very annoying...

Just bought unit. Had same problem.Tried lots of different types of disks with no luck. Tried to play already written +R disk. Worked OK. Then took out and replaced with blank -R. Came up with new screen asking me if I wanted to initialize disk. Answered yes and it took about 20 seconds. Then tried to DUB from HDD to DVD again. This time it came up with the dubbing menu, I hadn't seen before, and worked.
Hardly ideal, but the trick was to get it to recognise it as a blank and initialize. Currently burning my first disk. Didnt realise about 'FAST' mode, so taking ages.

When you put your disc in and its ready for copying over through Dubbing - when you see the quality ie xp - just press right or left til the FAST sign comes up. it maynot always come up if the recording time is any longer than an hour or less than 30 mins.

make sure you set dubbing speed to sp ,short play,thats the default setting,then go to start up menu and finalize disk
