That error message means. You must have tried to boot up to a floppy diskette. The diskette ( 's ), were made with a defective floppy drive. To re-download the Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install of Win XP click the link below:

Option if you have a cdrom in notebook & a real Win XP CD. Put the win xp cd in the cdrom drive. Start the Pc laptop & press the F8 key every two seconds. Windows will display a boot up option menue. Choose the cdrom. Win XP will start the installation.

If it keeps crashing than you have no choice but to format the hard drive it is loading on. When Windows begins it shows the partitions listed on the drive. There should only be one partition. If there is more than one partition & this other partition is listed in front of (on top) of the listed, c:\ (size shown) partition delete it.

    Ex: D:\ NTFS size 4,000Mb.

C:\ NTFS size 71,0000Gb. You will need to delete the D:\

The only drive partition you want ic C:\. Than preform a Quick format. Windows should install & not crash. WARNING ALL DATA will be erased. If you post back with the model number & Mfg's name I can post a link for Win XP drivers for your notebook. Lastly, when finished & Win did not crash be sure to turn on windows firewall before going on line.

Have corrupted files on my acer travelmate 2300

So are you running xp or windows 7, either way you could put in your operating system discs and go through the prompts and repair computer, windows 7 will find error and correct as will xp, but with xp if you choose repair you will lose all updates and servicepacks, or you could try these instructions on the link below

My laptop will not boot up, instead it goes directly into a screen I haven't seen before and says, "Operating System not found"

usually this means that the previously installed windows/linux operating system is corrupted....best to re-install operating system via disc windows/linux....so that it replaces corrupted informatiom/instructions on hard drive....if you have files you want to keep then dont do a format on install as you will definately lose them......

Microsoft word

The documents are probably not corrupted, just unassociated file types as you don't have a program that recognizes *.doc file type now that Word is no-longer there. Microsoft Office has a Repair option if you run the Install Disc, or, if you uninstalled the application in the regular manner then you can just install it again without affecting your other office programs by selecting only Word on install.

Compaq Presario C300 Recoivery Disc 2 corrupt

Hi John.

F11 process is not working and you get a NTLDR missing when you turnon the notebook.

Steps to be performed:
1. Perform hard drive self test from BIOS.
2. If it is passed then use retail version of operating system disk to install XP or try using new recovery disks which nay cost you $15.00.

In your notebook model this issue appears if there is any issue with the hard drive.

Missing or corrupt win/sys32/config/ sys file

The best thing to do is borrow a Win XP cd from a friend and do the following:
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your applications, it just re installs the Windows files. This is great because when it works and you don't need to reinstall all your software.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Do you have a recovery disk?

Insert the recovery disc, (if auto run starts up, just close it)
Go to Start>Run and type cmd and hit enter.
In the DOS command window, type sfc /SCANNOW and hit enter.
That will check your Windows files against the Windows files on the disc. If it finds corrupted or missing ones, it will repair or replace them. You will not lose any data or files this way. (If it will accept the disc again)

Startup screen freezes

using the system restore disk, boot the laptop and choose repair, run chkdisk /r this repairs the system files, if this does not fix the problem, using the same system disk do a restore.
