I'm having the same problem with the scan/copy/photo buttons. It constantly says to check cartridge. I have changed the cartridges out twice now to two brand new cartridges and have cleaned the copper contacts. Has anyone found another solution to repair this? I have even turned everything off and let it sit for ten minutes and started it back up. This is frustrating. Up to yesterday it worked fine.

I have pu the cartridges in a plactic bag and slung them downward to try to force air out of cartridges, cleaned the contacts on the cartridges with cotton swab, and alcohol, and also cleaned the other contacts for the cartridges, turned it off and when I turn it back on the copy, scan and photo card lights still blink and it still gives me the message to check cartridges. The cartridges seem to be getting a good flow of ink, when I touch them with tissue paper. I did refill them the last time they were out of ink, Do you think that is the problem even though they worked fine after I did it? and do you think if I replaced the cartridges that it would fix the problem? If you don't think it will fix the program, I don't want to spend the money on the cartridges. Please write me back and let me know what you think.

The printer is saying please check and remove cartridge, I have put a new black cartridge in but it still wont print

  • narras Mar 21, 2008

Like the others, I have taken your advice. I have put in new cartridges, I have swabbed the contacts on both cartridges with alcohol, and done the same on the printer contacts, I have switched off and waited before re-setting the printer, but still those damned lights blink on and off and the problem remains frustratingly the same. And I cannot use my printer. is there any other advice you can offer ?

I have have the same problem. "Remove and check cartridge". I did like others, replaced ink cartridges with new. powered off, unplugged, disconnected from computer, cancelled print jobs, etc. still I can not even get the printer test to print. What's up? Did you guys just dump it and buy a new one?

    P.S. I have Vista.

I had the same problem- printer alignment cancelled in the middle and couldn't print or get rid of 'align cartridges' message. Went to HP website page http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpu00657&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=90809&rule=21804&lang=en#Bypass_Alignment
and discovered that you can bypass alignment. For my psc2175 I just had to hold Setup key and then press Options. Problem solved!

After speaking with an HP online technician, I learned that my cartridge (date on the bottom of the cartridge) for the black was expired. You may want to check the date and if expired, replace it with a fresh one. Also to remove the static electricity, power off the printer, unplug from outlet in back of print and on wall. Wait for 30 seconds to replug and power back on.

This is a typical error with the 2175 / 2100 series.
1.) Error comes up if ink in cartridge's ink level gets too low.
2.) The ink cartridge's copper contacts are dirty. Dirt you can't see. Clean contacts with alcohol & cotton swab's (not dripping).
3.) The carridge contact's need cleaning. (Same as above).
4.) The cartridge, (even though new, can be defective).
5.) You are using a "refill kit" of some kind to refill ink cartridge's.
6.) After 1-5, re-set the printer. Power off printer wait a minute & power back on.

My black cartridge was empty so I bought a new one. When I inserted the cartridge...the screen read "Remove and Check Cartridges." The "Copy", "Scan", and "Photo Card" tabs keep blinking as well....

hawleydn,
I know this might sound crazy, but your brand new cartridge is junk. Take it back and get a new one. I've done this several times with my HP PSC 2210. the all-in-ones are sometimes finicky with the cartridges. Also, be careful when you insert it into the slot. There is a small wire clip thing on the right side that is easily broken if you try to force it in.

If this helps, give me a vote :o)

When turning power ON, a clicking noise coming

Sounds like the scan assembly is worn out. If you lift the cover where you lay a copy and watch the scanner after youpower up, you might see the scanner just clicking back and forth, which means the lamp is worn out or dirty. Repairs in that case are more than the machine is worth.

Remove and Check Cartridges

Hiya timcarter1... Clear tray of any paper...would suggest you are ceratin that the cartridges are engaged! Otherwise try doing a reinstall of your software... and are you using generic cartridges " copy" rather than the branded ones .. tends to result in same message!
