Agitator loose agitator came loose. sounds like a nut rattling around inside it. how do you disassemble the agitator to retreive the nut and rebolt it?

The 3 pieces of the fabric softener assembly can be removed, but that only gives me access to a hollow area in the top side of the agitator body. The nut has come of the top of the agitator spline and is trapped in the underside of the agitator body by the "drive bell"? I need to figure out how to get this "drive bell" out of the bottom of the agitator body so I can access the nut, bolt the drive bell back on top of the agitator spline, and snap the agitator body back on to the drive bell.

This is for an Amana washer, model ALW880QAW. A diagram can be found at:

I certainly appreciate your continuing interest and helpfulness with your additional comments. But I don't think I've described the situation well enough to visualize.

I've got an "agitator assembly" that has come completely loose from the trasmission output shaft of the agitator motor. The "agitator assembly" is completely out of the washer tub, leaving just the exposed splined transmission output shaft. The "agitator assembly" consists of the agitator vane (or bell), a 3-piece fabric softener assembly on the top of the agitator vane (which can be easily removed, but gives no access to the underside of the agitator vane), and the drive bell assembly (which is still attached to the underside of the agitator vane).

The 7/16" nut and plug that are used to bolt the drive bell down on top of the transmission output shaft are rattling around loose inside the body of the agitator vane, trapped by the still-attached drive bell.

Normally, when the agitator assembly is still attached to the transmission output shaft, you can remove the agitator vane, by grabbing the bottom of the vane, or using agitator hooks, and using the leverage of the bottom of the agitator vane, prying the agitator vane up and off of the drive bell which is held onto the transmission shaft by that 7/16" nut.

My problem is, since the drive bell is not attached to the transmission output shaft, but is instead, wedged into the bottom of the agitator vane, I have no leverage with which to pull the agitator vane off of the drive bell, or the the drive bell out of the agitator vane.

Lift out the softener cup located on top of the agitator, there is a 7/16" nut bolted down into the agitator spline that may have come loose

  • Anonymous Jan 19, 2010

once this 7/16" nut is free, grab the lower portion of the agitator bell and wiggle it side to side while applying upward pressure, there is a drive-bell seal and this is probably holding the agitator on with friction, with enough upward motion it will give and agitator will lift upward and out of tub.you may need to replace the drive-bell seal after this

How do I remove the agitator from LG top Load washer

the agitator is held by a bolt with a 7/16 drive nut located inside the middle of agitator from the top downward? however by ur description sounds like maybe u have bad bearing in the hub? the cam dogs in the agitator dont usually make any noise especially when bad they just dont allow the agitator to move or catch the groves to agitate. The grinding could also be coming from something stuck inside the tub or on its outside and thus is hitting the wall lining and makes a screeching scraping sound, Ive seen this several times, a bra wire, or loose coin or key, etc

Why does my clothes get stuck around the bottom of my agitator during washing?

the center of your Agitator has a cap or a pull off top inside you should have a Nut, Tighten the nut back down sounds like the plastic Agitator has lifted up and has to be tapped or tighten back down into the Tub.

Hi,please help.I own a cb750 f 81 modle it started misfiring at high revs and after a long trip has started tapping, plus a noise inside the engine sounds like a loose bolt rattling around in there, but then...

About the only thing I can think of on the rattle is a broken gear tooth or a cap nut from and OHC mount has come loose or has come off and followed the cam chain down into the gearbox. I would be leery about riding it until the problem is found. The last thing you need is to be sliding on the concrete in traffic after the rattle gets in the wrong place and locks ou the gearbox at 60 mph.

The agitator seems to be stripped out - I need info on how to disassemble the agitator

Te newest ones are the easiest, a square hole can be unscrewed after removing the splash guard and belch dispenser.top Older models have a nut to remove. You must use an extension and socket for that. I have a nice video i found online: HERE
After I get the agitator out I set it on the floor and hold it down with my feet, I grab the top and yank it apart. I remove the old worn out agitation dogs and replace them with part number 80040 around $5 here. Line it all up and snap it back together without breaking the plastic locking tabs on the base of the agitator. While putting back the agitator take care not to make it come apart. This sounds hard but it is not. Anyone can do it.

I'm having a similar problem. Mine sounds like there is something behind the drum, like maybe a coin or loose nut? It screeches horribly.

Noisy/loose agitator

remove the top piece of the agitator. this is a dispenser. then remove a cap that is at the center of the agitator. there is a bolt there that is holding the whole agitator. remove the bolt and you can pull out the whole agitator. be careful in removing, the thing could just separate to pieces and you may have a problem assembling it again.

tnx 4 using fixya,
